What You Can't See Can Hurt You!
Nobody likes surprises, especially in the middle of an excava on project or a backyard addi on. With many services buried,
digging without first finding out what might be underground can lead to serious injury and costly, some mes dangerous, repairs.
Ontario One Call is designed so residents and contractors have a single point of contact to determine what is buried on their
property or construc on site before they start digging. It could be gas lines, cable and telephone services, water and sewer lines, or
electrical feeders.
“It really is just one call,” said Roy Rogers, Opera ons Manager for Midland PUC. “Every me someone is
breaking ground, even if it's just for a garden or fence post, they need to contact Ontario One Call.”
The Ontario One Call centre is a free service and is open 24 hours per day with locates guaranteed to be
completed in five business days. Requests can be made online or by telephone. Once Ontario One Call receives a
locate request, it sends out no fica ons to the respec ve service providers. Representa ves will visit the property
within five days and leave flag and/or paint markings to indicate where the services are located along with a sketch
of services in the area of work requested.

The number of locate requests vary with the season and it is important to call ahead. “We get very busy in

Ontario One Call was established in 1996 and became a not-for-profit organiza on in 2011. They have
grown extensively since then with most service providers legislated to be part of the program. As of June 1,
municipali es will also be required to join.
