Global Citizenship Summer School International Affairs LECTURE 1 - DEVELOPMENT AND ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION IN BRAZIL This lecture focuses on the core principles and conventions established by international environmental law as well as Brazilian Environmental Law. The lecture aims to introduce students to current Environmental Case Law in Brazil and explore the main environmental risks of doing business according to internal regulations in Brazil. CONTENTS: Brazilian Environmental Law System. The legal concept of environment. National Environmental Policy Act (6.938/81). Constitutional Law and environmental protection (article 225 Brazilian Constitution). Environmental harm and Tort Law. Environmental Criminal Law (9.605/98). National Policy for Climate Change Act. National Policy for Civil Protection and Defense. COMPETENCES To be aware of the contemporary issues concerning environmental protection in Brazil. To evaluate the legal efficiency and management of risks in Brazil. Fabrizio Camerini is also Unisinos Law School Professor (Tax Law and International Law) and International Economic Law Professor at ESMAFE (High Level School for Federal Judges). Former experience involves Tax and Business leading Attorney at Camerini Law Firm, Professor at the Civil Procedure Graduate Program at PUC-RS (Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul). Fabrizio Camerini holds a Specialist Degree in International Law and a Master Degree in Law from UFRGS (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul). LECTURE 3 - CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES TO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN BRAZIL The lecture aims to present, briefly, the economic formation of Brazil, exploring its roots and peculiarities; the present situation of the Brazilian economy, focusing on its challenges and opportunities and will propose, at the end, an exchange of ideas among the students in order to make them build some future scenarios for Brazil, considering a comparative approach to BRICS. CONTENTS Economic Formation of the Brazilian Economy; An overview on the Brazilian Economy; The role of Brazil in the international scenario (a comparative analysis on BRICS).
