Patrons and Passwords—
Empower Your Users to
Create Login Accounts: Destiny 9.0 takes another challenging and time-consuming task off your
hands: managing patron passwords and usernames. With version 9.0, a new site-based feature enables
patrons to manage their own usernames and passwords when using Destiny classic or Destiny Quest. A
checkbox on the Site Configuration screen, “Allow patrons to create user name and password,” is
checked by default. Process checkpoints within the system provide authorization and prevent
duplication of accounts. In addition, users will be able to reset their passwords. This new feature
empowers users by enabling expanded collaboration and social networking; only logged-in users may
recommend titles to others, request titles through the wish list, add text reviews or upload digital
content.

Customize Your Destiny Quest
•
Change the Destiny Quest Background Theme
Destiny Quest users now have the capability to customize the background, colors
and images that are displayed during their search session. Users may choose from
the original “blue maze” background or select a theme geared toward elementary users or a theme
designed to appeal to high school users. Each selected theme is saved and appears the next time the user
logs in; guests may change the theme, but it is reset to the default once the guest session is completed.
The default theme is set at the site configuration level. Additional themes are planned for future releases
of Destiny Library Manager.
•
Narrow Down Search Results by Alpha, Genre, Page Count or Ratings
Expanded flexibility within the “Narrow Your Search” option enables
Destiny Quest users to sort and view the results in these categories:
— In Alphabetical Order: See results
in alphabetical order by author, subject,
series, awards, language and format.
Results may also be narrowed by number
of hits.
— By Genre: Results can be displayed
by genre and sub-genres, if cataloged.
— By Number of Pages: Help younger
students find books of just the right page
count to keep them challenged but not
overwhelmed using the “Extent-Pages”
search narrowing option.
— By Review Rating: Sort results by
titles with the highest user star ratings.
•
New Display Options for Top 10 and New Arrivals
A section added to the Back Office | Site Configuration screen will
enable administrators to choose whether or not to diplay the Top 10 titles
in both Destiny classic and Destiny Quest. An additional option on this screen will allow the
administrator to turn off the “New Arrival” section in Destiny Quest. If the “Show New Arrivals in
Destiny Quest” is unchecked, this information will not display on the Destiny Quest opening search
screen. In addition, a new option on this screen will let users choose to count in-library use circulations
in the Top 10 count and what patron types to include.

Build Community and Social Networking with Destiny Quest
•
Recommend This Title to Others
Destiny Quest users with valid usernames and passwords can now recommend
a title to their peers by clicking a link on the Title Details screen. A pop-up
dialog box prompts the user for the patron name and provides a field to enter comments and the reason
the title has been recommended. The recommended title appears in the receiver’s “My Info” section.
•
Make a Wish: Suggest Titles to Add to the Collection
Destiny Quest users with the rights to add a title to the site’s Wish List will now
have the ability to request specific titles to add to the collection, just like they
can in Destiny classic. By clicking on the “Add a Wish” link on the Title Details screen, a dialog box
appears with a default selection of the current title. If “Another title” is selected, the user must complete
the “Title” field. On the main Destiny Quest search screen, this dialog box also appears with a prepopulated search term when a search returns no results.
•
Public Resource Lists Promote Collaboration
See what others are reading, teaching and learning with the ability to view
and access public “Resource Lists” in Destiny Quest. Once the “View Public
Lists” access right is assigned, the Destiny Quest home screen will display the
most recently updated lists showing the last five items sorted by the date the item was added or updated.
By selecting “Show All,” the list will refresh and display all public resource lists within a scrollable
widget interface.
•
Create Bibliography Report from a Personal Resource List
Destiny Quest will now enable users to generate a bibliography report of
library titles from a personal Resource List. The report format will match the
format in Destiny classic and includes call number/author (default), Author/Title and Title/Author, and
“Show notes.”
New Search Prompts and Navigation Help
•
“Did You Mean?” Prompts Help Guide Users’ Searches
When a Destiny Quest user attempts a search that results in “No matches
found,” the user is presented with a “Did you mean?” search suggestion
drop-down box. Clicking the “Go! Search again” button initiates another search using the new terms.
The user will see the “Did you mean?” suggestion when entering five or fewer words.
•
Paging Arrows and Text Cues Guide Users Through Destiny Quest
To help your users navigate easier, within the “Narrow Your Search”
window and in other windows in Destiny Quest where additional text
may be found on the following pages, small paging arrows in the lower corner or corners of each
window have been replaced with arrow buttons and text indicating “Next” and/or “Previous.”

Cataloging Enhancements
•
Merge Duplicate MARC Records After Import
Ongoing cataloging, adding new titles and collection cleanup get a big boost
with Destiny 9.0. You may now merge duplicate MARC records after they have been imported. Under
“Catalog” on the “Update Titles” screen, a “Merge Duplicate” tab has been added. The process can be
run for the district (default) or for a specific site and can be limited to titles last updated in particular
date range.
•
Search for SAFARI Montage Video Records in Destiny
Incorporating SAFARI Montage streaming videos into your lesson plans just
got easier. Destiny 9.0 supports searching of SAFARI Montage streaming
videos. If you’ve loaded the
SAFARI Montage records into
your database, the MARC
records for SAFARI Montage
titles will include a URL in the
856 tag that points to the
district’s SAFARI Montage
server. Users may add copies,
circulate, add reviews and place
holds on these titles. Just like
eBooks, SAFARI Montage
records have no copies
associated with them. Destiny
9.0 enables you to choose to
preserve SAFARI Montage
records and eBooks when
deleting titles without copies.
•
Matching Rules Enhancements
When importing titles, users will now have the option to select to remove the
author requirement from the strict matching rules. Slight differences in Author
may have prevented otherwise identical records from matching. Selecting the “Remove the author
requirement from the strict matching rules” check box will ignore the differences in the Author fields
during import.
•
Title Import Protection
Destiny 9.0 includes a protective safeguard that prevents users from uploading
and importing a conversion file (.all). This file is typically only imported once,
during initial implementation of the Destiny system. If a user selects an import file with the “.all”
extension, the following message is displayed when “Preview” or “Import” is clicked: “This appears to
be a Destiny Administrator’s import site file, not a valid title import file.”

Enhanced Reporting and Administration
•
Display eBook Statistics
Your eBook collection may be growing, and Destiny 9.0 helps you keep up with
more specific eBook circulation statistics to enable you to determine how often they are being used and
to help justify additional eBook purchases. eBook checkouts are included under “Check outs” in
Current Library Statistics. With Destiny 9.0, in addition to viewing total checkouts, you will be able to
view “Follett eBook Check outs” and “Follett eBook Previews.” Statistics for eBooks from other
vendors are included under “Check outs.”
•
See Hidden Materials at Other Sites
District administrators now have the capability to enable sites to see local hidden
materials. If this right is enabled, users with the right to “See off-site hidden
materials” will be able to search across the district through ILLs and see materials at other sites not
typically available for student checkout, such as bookroom/instructional materials, equipment, parent
center materials, etc.
•
Changes to Special Due Date in Checkout
Under Circulation | Checkout, when changing the due date for checkout to
patron, users have the option to select a date “until logout” or “for this item.”
Once selected, this option will remain as the default option until changed by the user.
•
Batch Delete Book Reviews
To help maintain your growing book review files, Destiny 9.0 now supports
global delete of reviews at individual sites by date range, content or patron.
Choose to delete a select group based on specific review criteria, such as
“Anything” (all reviews will be deleted), “Ratings Only” (reviews with only star ratings but no text
comments), “Comments” (reviews that include text comments) or ‘Digital Content” (reviews with a file
attachment). You may also delete reviews by specific patron, by patrons with a common graduation
year or by patrons who have been transferred or deleted. Backing up your database remains as
important as ever; once you’ve deleted the reviews, they are permanently removed from the records.
•
Print Receipts for
Today’s Checkouts Only
Destiny 9.0 now provides your
patrons with more up-to-date fine
status on their receipts. You may
print out receipts for transactions
for “Only today’s check outs” from
the Check Out screen. The setting
will be saved once the “Receipt”
button is clicked and is displayed
next time the screen is accessed.

•
District Circulation Reports Limiter
New functionality in Destiny 9.0 gives district users additional capabilities
for historical circulation statistics reporting. A new option supports pulling
library statistics by date range. This option may be run at any time, and is not restricted to off-peak
periods.
•
Report Builder Patron Notes Enhancement
In the Report Builder, under Patron | General Information, users will now be
able to view notes on patron records. If the “Note – General” field is selected,
the report will include patron notes not marked “urgent”; by selecting the “Note – Important” field, the
report will display a patron note that is marked “urgent.”
•
More Limiters in Report Builder
Report Builder flexibility is enhanced with the ability to select “AND” or “OR”
when setting up limiters to indicate which records to include/exclude from import.
•
Media Bookings from a Public Resource List
Destiny Library Manager customers who also use Destiny Media Manager may
now book media materials that are posted in the public resource list.
•
Duplicate Booking Requests Prevented
If a user already has one or more bookings on a title, an informational
message will display, “You have existing bookings for this title,” indicating the
dates of the existing booking
and the number of copies. This
also applies when the user
already has one or more
bookings of a title that is in a
Resource List.
•
Print Packing List
Destiny Media
Manager users will
now be able to create and
view packing lists without
shipping the materials. The
packing list is available to view
in PDF format.

Subject Search in Alliance Plus™
Many of our users have asked for the capability to search by subject when cataloging library or media
titles using Destiny’s database of 8 million+ MARC records, and Destiny 9.0 delivers. You may now
search for titles by subject. This functionality is integrated into Destiny Library Manager and does not
require a separate subscription.
•
WebPath Express™ Results Sorted by Domain
Expanded filtering capability in WebPath Express now supports the display of results filtered by
domain, such as .gov, .edu, .org, .net, etc. This new functionality applies to WebPath Express used with
Destiny Quest (pictured, left) and Destiny classic (pictured, right).

•
Delete Lexile® Measures Prior to Download
Before processing an update, you may need to remove Lexile information, similar to the way you
remove Accelerated Reader and Reading Counts information before an update. Destiny 9.0 has added
the option, “Delete all Lexile information before updating.”
