Knights of Columbus to sponsor Marian Hour of Prayer dedicated to Our Lady of Charity Please join us at 7:30pm on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Our Lady of Mercy Church for this special service. Devotion to Our Lady of Charity dates back to the early 1600’s, when three young men found a statue of the Blessed Mother holding the Christ Child in Cuban waters. This statue was attached to a board that was inscribed with the words” I am the Virgin of Charity” Soon after this, a shrine was built to honor Our Lady of Charity. In 1998, Pope John Paul II visited Cuba and in a solemn procession attended by thousands, crowned the statue of Our Lady of Charity and then it was carried throughout the streets. Now an Icon of this special Lady is being sent throughout the country by the Knights of Columbus. Here at St Thomas More and Our Lady of Mercy the Saint Vincent de Paul Society is also participating in the program as a reminder that both groups do much of the charitable works of mercy in this area. Everyone is encouraged to spend time, this Holy Week in this devotion. Deacon Jim Davis will preside over the service which will begin with a procession and includes music, prayers and devotions to our special Lady of Charity. All family members are welcome to this special event. This is a wonderful way to get spiritually prepared for the holiest week on the Liturgical calendar. Do not miss out on this one time event.
