Amen God’s People & God’s Reign – St. Hilda’s Lenten Journey -2014 Consider some of the following ways to make the most of Lent - in addition to the ones in the St Hilda’s Lent Journey guide...... Take a copy of the St Hilda’s Lent Journey God’s people & Gods Reign – use it as reflective guide With one or two others be aware of your neighbours – Do you know them on first name terms? Pray for your neighbours especially a particular neighbour or workmate who needs some assistance. Consider ways to practically serve your neighbour in small but genuine ways. How much time do you have to listen to a neighbour? Workmates?, family member who needs to talk?. Make time to listen! Abraham left the things that gave him security to build greater trust in God – What things could you leave behind in Lent? Neighbours Day is Saturday 29 March – consider inviting some neighbours over for a coffee or even a BBQ. Walk around your locality with open prayerful eyes – ask God to make you aware of needs in you area – down your street that you could meet. .................................................................... OUR GIFT IN THE LENTEN JOURNEY— Lent is the time –40 days leading up to Easter, when we take an opportunity to reflect on Jesus Journey to the cross and our involvement with him as his followers. There are opportunities for special reflection time to come aside and look at our following. This year the theme is The Reign of God and the Faith Community. Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on March 5th. opportunities exist to use our gifts by taking part or initiating worship for times such as Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday—Jesus entry into Jerusalem, Maunday Thursday –celebration of the last Supper, Good Friday— Commemorating Jesus death on the Cross and Easter day—Celebrating Resurrection. …………………………………………………………… Lent Quiet afternoon- God’s People & God’s reign - Sunday March 30th –We will gather for services in the morning then take time for quiet/prayer/ reflection – across all ages – using the theme God’s People & God’s reign. “Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle.” Dr. Martin Luther king Jr. Community Notices Picnic @ Parliament – 19 March On Wednesday 19 March from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, the Wellington Catholic Justice, Peace and Development Commission is organising a picnic in Parliament to highlight inequality and to challenge our members of Parliament to do something about it. This links in with the Living Wage campaign. Anglican Diocese with a heart for addressing the inequality issues in New Zealand welcome to support this event .................................................................. Responsible Investment, Transitions to Low Carbon Economies and Divestment Seminar – 27 March The burning of fossil fuels is a major cause of climate change. Churches and other institutional investors are in a position to exercise leadership in this transition. May God bless them as they seek to be a blessing to others. We also pray for the people who find comfort at the House of Sarah.
