How do I tie in the theme to my objective summary? The first sentence of your
summary should introduce the theme of the text, without actually saying it is the theme – like
this:

the blank.) This is what we call a theme statement. Then, as you write your summary of the
major events of the text, make sure to mention your three pieces of textual evidence above, in
the appropriate place in the story’s events.
