Swim Meet Volunteer Position Descriptions
Timer
Runner
Timers are responsible for timing and recording swimmers’ times in an assigned lane for the duration of a meet. At the
end of each heat of each event, Timers provide completed time cards to the Runner. Stopwatches, time cards and
pencils are provided. We need a minimum of six Timers for each meet.
Runners are responsible for collecting completed time cards from the Timers and place cards from the Place Judges at
the end of each heat, making sure that time cards are completely filled out. After each heat of each event, the Runner
delivers the time cards (in lane order) with the place form on top to the Score Keeper’s table. We need one Runner for
each meet.
Score
Keeper
Score Keeper keeps a running tally of the results for both teams on an official score sheet. Score Keeper uses the place
form and time cards to record results and to determine score after each event. We need one Score Keeper for each
meet.
Marshaller
Marshallers line up the swimmers according to their event, heat and lane. A marshaller will walk the swimmers to their
lanes prior to the start of their event. We need a minimum of three Marshallers for each meet.
Ribbon
Coordinator
Ribbon
Handler
Ribbon Coordinator places pre-printed stickers on 1st, 2nd , 3rd and Honorable Mention ribbons and organizes them in
alphabetical order. We need one volunteer for each meet. (The Ribbon Coordinator’s work is done at home).
At away meets the Ribbon Handler highlights Dolphin placements in each heat, collects score sheets at the end of meet
and ensures the correct number of blank ribbons are received from the other team. Ribbon Handler gives official score
sheets and blank ribbons to a member of the Parents Assocation
All volunteer positions can be performed easily by anyone. Any necessary
instruction is given prior to the start of the meet.
