At the moment the SU pays for 5 different common room Newspapers. − Farihah will produce a poll: Asking for papers in favour and possibly replacement by other magazines like: Economist, New Scientist, Independent I (20p) only if already subscribed Farihah 3.3. Sara MacKichen and Eilnor George discussing the gym equipment Proposal to what could be added (Sarah) – Proposal attached − Sarah’s proposal states what we need in the gym as small additions to make more out of the equipment we have at the moment − Sarah will look into a floor plan and liaise with Christine regarding Health and Saftey − Kate Stevens suggests that rowers would like to train here at the moment they have to go Hugh’s for their workout: Especially Barbells are missing and essential for the rowers. She asked whether Lucy gym use for Hugh’s girls in the W1 boat would be allowed under the supervision of the coach, provided they have insurance already for this. We referred her to speak to Christine − Black bike needs new batteries. Blue bike needs to have resistance set. − Any equipment needing battery replacement: Please ask the Porters straight away! − We buy a log book for the gym to put failure of equipment in there Vote on Funding proposal £251.89 for new gym equipment (see proposal) In favour Against Abstention 22 0 0 − Sarah is happy once we have the new equipment to write an email to students to introduce especially the squad rack how to actually use it on several days in the week when she is in there anyway. THANK YOU SARAH!!! 4. Committee reports A. Executive Committee Reports President: Olivia (not present) B. Non-Executive Committee Reports Jess: LGBT officer (not present) 2 4.1 Support Number Ruta: Access officer − − − − − 4.2 Shadowing Scheme Gaby’s reply to accommodation for students: College has a guest room which is available, but it was not agreed to use this for the students coming to shadow. There are 3 students coming at the end of February for 1 day: 1 from London, 1 from Cambridge, 1 from Surrey It was neither approved by college that shadows stay with the host in the same room We will bring it up at Council whether a subsidy from college is possible for the Surrey student to spend the night in college at a reduced rate. Student could pay a nominal amount like £15 pounds to contribute to accommodation Food for students: Funding for 1 Breakfast at which students may talk to other Lucy students about the college: Vote on Funding proposal £20 approved for breakfast with Shadowing students In favour Against Abstention 23 0 0 5. Questions to committee No Questions were submitted 6. Motions submitted. No motions submitted 7. Any Other Business 7.1 Sarah Harfleet: Heating control − Issue: heating is turned off during 12-6pm. In some rooms it is freezing, in others it is too hot. It seems to be very building specific. − Suggestions to bring forward: a) During a cold snap have some additional heating hours b) Heating on intermittently to keep the temperature in a room? c) Turn the heating on later at night but earlier in the morning? d) Low temperature all the time to use the same amount of energy but keep the room at a more constant temperature? Accommodation officer (Olivia) to raise heating change suggestions (In Olivia’s absence, Sarah Harfleet will arrange to speak with Christine to bring this up. She is standing for Welfare Team ) 3 7.2 Sarah Koerner – African Secondary School Fundraising Project: Education Partnerships Africa (www.epafrica.org) − Sarah is fighting for Improvement of Secondary Schools in Africa: Every volunteer has to bring funding with them otherwise the place will not used and one school in Africa will not profit: £2300 in total to cover flight, accommodation, training and the rest goes directly to the school. £500 has to be raised until the 31st of March. − Sarah already set up a Lucy play supported by the Bursary office by the rooms provision for performances, but any money obtained through the play would not be enough. − Suggestions for further events to raise more money: a) Themed Lucy bop, Valentines Bop does not work due to Black Tie dinner the next day, Entry fee at bop was discouraged as we don’t want to risk the spirit of bops at Lucy disappearing as we never used charge and we still have to work to make Lucy Bops an Institution! b) Auctioning of: Cheerleaders, Rugby Players e.g. as Valentine Dates c) Speed dating d) Anti-Valentine’s Day Horror Night: Screen with Projector. e) Charity formal f) June Event: Launch Party: Ticket entry fee could go towards it, suggestions: top-less waiters, Cocktails Aman: Lucy student union has an obligation to serve Lucy Students, thus it would not be in our remit to actually spend money on projects not benefiting students. However, the Lucy SU strongly supports the idea of this project and would love Sarah to integrate some of her ideas into SU events, in this way both parties can benefit. We strongly encourage Sarah to meet up with Professor Todd to get her on board. Shelly suggests to have posters, leaflets and as much representation in college as possible to increase the support received! 8.
