Could you find another solution if you knew that the area of the large pie was twice the area of the small pie?
1.414213 feet in diameter
1 foot in diameter
What if nobody wanted to have some from both pies? Could you still divide it up evenly among the 6 people?
What if there were 8 people?

1. Take a blank piece of paper and imagine that it is 4/5 of the area of some larger piece of paper. Fold your paper to show 3/5 of the larger (imagined) piece of paper.
Do this carefully and precisely without using a ruler or measuring. Explain why your answer is correct. Could two people have different­looking solutions that are both correct?

2A #2 Benton used 3/4 of a cup of butter to make a batch of cookie dough. Benton rolled the batter out into a rectangle as shown below. Now he wants to cut off a piece of the dough so that the portion he cuts off contains 1/4 a cup of butter. How could he cut the dough?

What if his bottle had originally contained 1/2 a cup of oil? What fraction of that would he need to get 1/3 cup of oil?
