Shape Sort
Worksheet
Guess My Polygon
Aidan was making property lists for different
polygons. What could Aidan have written down
for the properties of a rectangle? The properties
of a square? The properties of a rhombus?
Cut out the shapes on page 3. Sort the shapes
into groups and have a family member guess
how you sorted them. After they have guessed,
trade roles and have them sort and you guess
their rule for sorting.
Read the directions and complete the worksheet
on page 4 by matching the correct polygon to
the clues given.

Aidan said, “All squares are rectangles, but not
all rectangles are squares.” Use the properties
of a rectangle and a square to explain why
Aidan is correct.
A square can also be called a rhombus. Why
can a square belong to the same group as a
rhombus? Explain.
