Great Lakes Region High Performance Program The Great Lakes Region High Performance Program is an extension of USA Volleyball’s national High Performance Program. The primary objectives are to identify elite athletes and provide them with top level training and competition. The regional programs are an important step within the pipeline that leads to the national level programs. For information on the national program and tryouts, see the High Performance section of USAV’s web page at usavolleyball.org. 2002 Great Lakes Region High Performance Summary In the summer of 2002, the Great Lakes Region conducted our first regional High Performance Camp. Tryouts for spots in the camp were held in two age divisions: the Youth age division (born on or after 1/1/1986) and the HP age division (born on or after 1/1/1988). Approximately two dozen players were selected to attend each camp. From the camps themselves, travel squads were selected to represent the Great Lakes Region in competition. Great Lakes Youth Age Division 24 players attended the three day camp which was held at Elmhurst College. The athletes trained on four courts under the supervision of a staff consisting of seven club and collegiate coaches. Along with the team honor of bringing home the championship trophy, Mandi Caputo (Lions Jrs.) received the tournaments Most Valuable Player award and Maureen Zigulich (Lions Jrs.) was named the tournaments Best Defender.
