Monthly Meeting Minutes Wasatch Hollow Community Council Anderson-Foothill Library, 7:00 PM Wednesday, April 22, 2015 Attendance: 28 (Officers: Mike, Laurie, Brad, Marilyn, Mel) Welcome – Michael Dodd, WHCC Chair • Approved of minutes from last meeting Crime Report – Detective Tim Stumm, SLCPD Wasatch Hollow patrol found two kids smoking marijuana SLCPD to provide training how to access crime statistics online o April 29, 7 pm, Public Safety Building Will provide other training as needed Fire Department Report – Station 10 May 29, Spring Fire Safety Fair at Public Safety Building. Public invited. Spring clean up, do not burn yard waste Checking fire hydrants for next tow or three months Watch for kids on streets in warm weather BBQ away from the house Salt Lake City Council Update – Charlie Luke, Representative, District 6 • Police Department refused District 6 Community Councils’ request for continuing crime statistics report in council meetings. Charlie is hosting District 6 community meeting with the chief of police to hear residents’ concerns. Hillside Middle School, 6-8 PM, May 21st. Public notice will be mailed out. Get questions to Michael Dodd in advance of meeting. • Capital Improvement Project (CIP) process. o Missed this deadline for current year • 1700 E Emerson Update o Options. One way street Close street off like Kensington. If done, the corner could make a staging area for a north entrance to park o Issues Storm water No curb o Prepare for May 27th meeting Ask neighbors what they think about options Let Charlie know in 2 or 3 weeks to give Robin heads up o Why is Kensington off the table for park entrance? Charlie said the issue won’t be raised again. o Speed bumps? City decided not to do anymore 20 years ago. • o CIP may not be needed if transportation department budget can cover what needs to be done. o Conclusion: Fixing road and park entrance are separate issues. Street needs to be fixed. Also need a northern entrance to the preserve. Answer questions from council members o 17th and 17th new development south side of 1700. Concerns about timing of construction and safety of school students. Developer should have a plan. Charlie will look into it. o Spring cleanup date will be in early June. Public will be notified. o 21st and 21st small area plan concerns. Plan is mainly for north side of 21st South. Apartment complex required zoning change; opposed by neighbors. Developer said he would redo plan to not require rezoning. Small area plan covers 21st and 21st up to Rite Aid. City will do outreach to churches, schools, and residents to take pulse of neighborhood. o How can city pay for these plans? Revenue challenges: (1) Property tax - 42% of SLC property is tax exempt. (2) Daytime population doubles – city has to provide services.
