Sir Isaac Newton
Isaac Newton (1642 - 1727) was an English scientist.
He was born at Woolthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. As
a young boy he liked making mechanical devices. He
went to school at King’s College. He didn’t particularly
like school and didn’t do very well. He preferred
making things like windmills and sundials.
He did eventually go to university at the lowest entry level, but
still did not do that well. The university he went to had to close
because of the plague and so he continued his studies at home,
where he started to write and carry out experiments.
Within a period of two years he had made many important
discoveries.
One day whilst sitting in the garden, an apple fell to the ground.
He decided to investigate why things always fell down. He did
not solve this puzzle until a few years later and called this force
gravity.
He then went on to discover that gravity kept the planets
orbiting the sun.
Sir Isaac Newton is now known as one of the greatest scientists
who ever lived. He died in 1727 at the age of 84 and is buried in
Westminster Abbey.
