Spanish Newsletter marzo y abril 2017 m A Look Back at March 1st Grade Our first graders have been working hard reading short stories in Spanish. We started a new farm animal book, Oso Pardo Oso Pardo ¿Que Ves Ahi? Students have been learning all of the farm animal vocabulary found in the story in order to re-create their own version in Spanish! 2nd Grade Students have finished their “Todo Sobre Mi” unit by completing a poster describing themselves and all of their favorite things in Spanish! We will be presenting our posters to our class together and sharing in our favorite activities! 3rd Grade Third graders are reading the story David Va Al Colegio by David Shannon. We have been working hard learning all vocabulary pertaining to the school including school supplies, commands, people and places at John Marshall and emotions. We are finally ready to read the story in Spanish and have fun making a virtual comic strip in April! 4th Grade Fourth graders have started their delicious smoothie recipes in Spanish using tropical fruits. Students created their own recipes and then will record their voices and presentations on ScreenCastify on their Chromebooks in Spanish! 5th Grade ¡Viva México! Students have finished their virtual field trip and study of México! We used a variety of tools such as Google Maps, streetview, and Prezi to conduct a geographical and cultural study of this large spanish-speaking country! Students have learned about the nation’s capital, beaches, ancient Aztec and Maya ruins, and many exciting cities and their contributions to México. What to Expect in April 1st Grade John Marshall’s first graders will be starting a new story in Spanish this April! Students will be reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. Students will learn the vocabulary associated with the wonderful life cycle of a butterfly as well as all of the yummy treats the caterpillar eats in the story! We will also be reviewing the Spanish calendar and days of the week this month! 2nd Grade Students will be learning body parts vocabulary through the use of songs, videos, communicative activities, the class website, and games. This will wrap up our “Todo Sobre Mi” unit and the students will complete one last project to describe themselves in Spanish! 3rd Grade Students will be starting their David Va Al Colegio virtual comic strips on www.storyboardthat.com in Spanish! This will be such a fun and exciting project that they will be able to use their creativity and knowledge of our learned vocabulary to create a character and their experiences at school. Students will be able to read, present, and share their comics to the class once the project is completed! Together we will create an entire comic book with their strips! 4th Grade Fourth graders will wrap up their delicious smoothie recipes using ScreenCastify on their Chromebooks. We will have the opportunity to watch and listen to our video recipes in Spanish! Afterwards, students will be taking a virtual field trip to Puerto Rico using an interactive Prezi presentation and Google Maps. 5th Grade Our fifth graders will continue their trip through México and will learn all about its Independence Day or “El Grito de Dolores”! Students will be able to watch the famous reenactment in the major town plaza, El Zocalo. They will even have the chance to participate in the speech!
