Parents’ Evening
Thank you for attending parents’ evening last week. If you missed
your appointment for any reason, please contact the school to rearrange
a mutually convenient time.
Thank you also to those who took the time to complete a questionnaire.
We will publish a summary of the results in the next newsletter.
On Thursday 11th October, the Stretham Primary School key stage
2 pupils enjoyed a visit from British Antarctic Survey employee,
Tamsin Gray, she is a meteorologist who studies weather.
Firstly, she talked about the weather, she told us that she has to
pump up helium balloons with a small device tied to it, then she sends
it up and by the time it gets to the top of the atmosphere it pops
and drifts back down again.
Next, she talked about the clothes you have to wear. You have to
wear a lot of clothes or you’ll get
frostbite. Mr. Ellis who is one of the
teachers was asked by the children to
try the clothes on. So he went up and
put them on. All the children were
bursting with laughter.
Finally, she showed us the food and it
looked delicious.
All the children really enjoyed the visit
and learnt a lot.

DATES FOR THE DIARY
KS2 Spellings
Further to the recent letter regarding key stage 2
spellings we would like to congratulate all those
children who have worked hard at their spellings
and who are regularly attaining full marks and
completing their homework to a high standard.
However, we are regularly seeing between 1823% of key stage 2 children in spellings club for
attaining low scores or completing their homework to an unsatisfactory standard. It is extremely important that we support children with
their spellings as a key skill in their learning. If a
child attends spelling club more than twice in any
half term period, we will contact the parents to
enable us to work together to allow the child to
succeed.
We will be monitoring attendance to spelling club
on a regular basis and will be striving to reduce
the number of children coming to spelling club
over the next month. Your continuing assistance
in helping your child learn their spellings is appreciated.
