Sacrament of Marriage
A couple wishing to be married
in St. Patrick Parish must contact
the parish six months prior
to the intended wedding date.
To strengthen him for the journey, God provides
Elijah with cake and water, reminiscent of his ancestor’s
Pasch (1 Kings 19:4-8). Thus he experiences the goodness of the Lord Jesus (Psalm 34) who is the bread of
life (John 6:41-51) and who also strengthens us for our
journey, following the way of love (Ephesians 4:30 ― 5:2).
Central to Catholic life and identity is the
Eucharist. Eucharist accompanies us all through life ―
first as children (First Communion), then with the
Sacraments of Confirmation, Ordination and Marriage
and in our sickness and final days in the anointing of the
sick in Viaticum. It is celebrated for the funerals of
paupers and the coronation of Kings, in Cathedrals, and
battlefields, in homes and hospitals, in fact ― wherever
people gather, no matter the setting or situation ― the
Mass is said.
While there was no Eucharist in the Old
Testament times, the First Reading in today’s Mass
gives us an insight into the power and meaning of the
Eucharist. Elijah, tired and discouraged from journeying
in the desert, is unexpectedly met by an angel who
touches him and orders him “to get up and eat”. He got
up, was strengthened by the food and was able to go on.
Like Elijah, we too are touched by an angel ― We
pray ― “ O Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom
God’s love commits me here, ever this day be at my side
to light and guard to rule and guide. Amen.” In the
Eucharist, God also touches us and gives us food for our
journey.

CHARITABLE BEQUEST
Remembering Saint Patrick Church in your will is
a beautiful testimony of your belief in our mission
and of what you cherish. Please consider leaving
a charitable bequest to the Church.
We welcome new families to
our Parish. Please register as
soon as possible and notify the
parish office of moves or address
changes. Please note if you
would like the convenience of
Sunday envelopes as the
ordinary means of meeting your
obligations to your Parish.
come “. El se levantó, fue fortalecido por la
comida y pudo continuar con su viaje.
Así como Eliseo fue cubierto por un
ángel — Nosotros rezamos —” Oh ángel de
Dios mi querido guardián, a quien el amor
de Dios me compromete aquí, siempre
quédate a mi lado para iluminarme, cuidarme y guiarme. Amén”. En la Eucaristía,
Dios nos cubre también, dándonos alimento
para nuestro viaje en esta tierra.

LADIES SOCIETY
Another great success for our Ladies Society: The Rummage Sale!!! So
many special people to thank! We say it was a two week work before the
sale but it truly was at least six months planning. That part was done by
two very special women, Karen Jones and Marianne Chavez. Thank you
so very much ladies for your dedication.
To the forty plus women who came to Gurnell Hall for the two weeks prior to accept your
donations. They sorted, priced and placed everything in such an organized manner making
it easy for our shoppers. We thank all of you.
Truly the people who made the event such a wonderful success were you, our parishioners
and our "neighbors" in other parishes. Thank you for your wonderful treasures!
To our wonderful "shoppers" who return faithfully year after year and receive our bargains
and very loud THANK YOU!!
Some 75 years ago other generous, strong and dedicated women formed this event, and
because of their incentive, it is still carried on annually for the good of the St. Patrick Parish
Community. I cannot possibly imagine how much money St. Patrick Church has received
throughout the years from the dedication and love these women have for St. Patrick Church.
As of right now we do not have a final count to report to you but as soon as we do, we will
be most happy to let you know how successful this event was. Have you ever known such
wonderful women any where else? I haven't. Merci, gracias, danke ladies.

LITURGY OF THE HOURS
Two elderly couples were being interviewed to assess
the secret of their marital longevity. The husband of
the first couple said that he and his wife said; “I love
you” to each other on average three times every day,
which when calculated over fifty years amounted to
fifty thousand times. He stated that this was true
affirmation bombardment which day by day solidified the marriage. The husband of the second couple
said that his secret was much simpler and that you
only had to memorize two words. He said the no
matter what his wife said to him, he replied: “Yes
dear.” Given that the first commandment is that
you shall love the Lord, your God
with your whole heart, mind and
soul, wouldn’t it be nice to be in an
intimate relationship with him such
that you are able to say to him: “I
love you, Lord” a couple times a day
or, at least to say to him, like Mary:
“Yes” to whatever he sends your way?
CIVIL DISCOURSE
“Do not grieve the Holy Spirit
of God.” These words bring us up
short! What could we be doing to
grieve the Holy Spirit? Alas, the
same things that the Ephesians were
doing in the time of Paul, that is,
fighting, shouting, reviling each
other with fury, anger, and malice.
Just tune in to talk radio some day
or observe some “road rage” on the
expressway. If we who are partakers
of the Body of Christ can treat one
another this way, what does that
mean about our belief in Christ’s
message of peace and reconciliation?
The Eucharist is the sacrament of
unity. It is communion with God and
with each other. A good first step
would be to speak civilly to each
other, even in disagreement!

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
WE ARE KNIGHTS BECAUSE OF OUR DEVOTION TO CHRIST AND OUR DEDICATION
TO HELPING OUR COMMUNITY. OUR 41ST YEAR WILL BE A GREAT ONE.
All parishioners are reminded to mark their calendars for our monthly delicious
pancake breakfast, served after both Masses next Sunday, the 19th. Net revenues
from our breakfasts are contributed to the parish general fund. So, by enjoying
ourselves, we are contributing to our parish. Brother Knights, our future is in our
own hands; what we, as individuals do, counts. In keeping with our dedication to
becoming more deeply involved with the good works that your Council performs on a
regular basis, here is a partial list of various functions and fund raisers coming in
the next few months.
Our new 4th Degree Golden Sierra Assembly will be organizing the Octoberfest celebration
for all to enjoy. More details will be forthcoming shortly. Also, they will be meeting on a regular
basis in Gurnell Hall. Please watch for details. The meeting for this month will be held at
7:00 PM on Thursday, Aug 23rd.
 Also in October we will be holding our annual Tootsie Roll drive. Brother Knights
will be soliciting funds from the public for the purpose of donating to local needy
organizations that help people with developmental or cognitive disabilities. We will need
volunteers to station themselves outside local grocery stores; please contact Program
Director Jeff Lubenko at 530 622 4049 to offer your services. Last year we were unable to
adequately cover all venues; we needed more volunteers. You will make a difference.
 The monthly Officers meeting will be held on Thursday, Aug 16th at 6:30 PM, not 6:00.
This puts us back on our previous schedule, allowing us more time to eat before the meeting. All Officers, Directors and Project chairmen should attend. Hope to see you there.

ST. JAMES, GEORGETOWN
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament: Join us each Wednesday evening here at
St. James from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament led by Mark
Spaugh. If you have a prayer request, please write it down in the book on the lectern
in the foyer. Prayer requests are read and acted upon each week. Contact Mark Spaugh
at 621.0747 if you have questions or need further information.
Feast of the Assumption Mass: 6:00 pm, Wednesday, August 15th (Holy Day of Obligation)
Western BBQ: Have you dusted off your Stetson and shined your
boots? More importantly, have you saved the date? Our annual Western
BBQ will be here before we know it…Saturday, September 22nd is the
date. Heather Fitzhugh will again chair this great event. More information
about the BBQ will be coming soon!
Breakfast: Your friendly kitchen crew is taking a break. There will be no
breakfast served in the month of August. Please mark your calendars for
the fourth Sunday in September, the 23rd, when they will return to whip up and serve
