The Gut Factor What would you think if you were told that without bacteria, you couldn’t live? Sounds crazy doesn’t it? But it’s true. Let’s face it: there’s no secret that there are more people suffering from the crippling effects of having poor health than ever before. In fact, there’s more weight gain, obesity, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, depression, hormone imbalances, and digestive disorders than ever before. But why? Why is it that there is a seemingly endless increase in sicknesses when we are “more advanced” than ever before in the history of the world? How can we not overcome the sickness and become victorious? What if they were wrong when they told you to take antibiotics? What if it was just the opposite? Although it wouldn’t be the best thing to openly invite every bacteria into your body, perhaps to regain or sustain optimal health, we need to look back over the basics of life and health. Here’s the thing: In order to be healthy, sometimes it’s more important to focus on health rather than the symptom. In other words, so many people choose to live a life of neglect when it comes to health until they find themselves in a place of suffering and then expect to recover and see change right away…just to go back yet again to NOT taking proper care of the body. As a result, they act like eating healthy is about making symptoms go away, instead of continually eating healthy for the sake of being healthy. When it comes to health, particularly digestive and immune health, it is largely a result of having a good healthy “gut-flora.” What’s “gut-flora,” you ask? This is the complex community of microorganisms that live within everyone’s digestive tracts. When balanced and healthy, the bacteria within your body will have a huge effect on your digestion as well as on your overall health. “Probiotics” are live bacteria and yeasts that are good for your health. Although some bacteria can certainly harm you, there are also “good” bacteria that are helpful to protect us against an over growth of “bad” bacteria. When broken down, “Pro” means to “be in favor of,” or “for.” “Bio” refers or is defined as “life.” The suffix “ic” means “like.” Together they mean “for-life-like.” “Anti-biot-ics” on the other hand, mean “anti”, or “not-for life." By having a balanced “gut-flora,” where you have plenty of “good” bacteria, while keeping the “bad” bacteria to a minimum, your health can function and heal better than ever. Who would’ve thought that by eating the right foods, paired with taking great quality “pro-biotics,” that you could perhaps lose weight, increase your energy, improve your digestion and health, and reduce inflammation, while achieving remarkable health? *These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA and are not intended To diagnose, treat, or prevent disease.
