McNally House Hospice Hospice Administrative Support Student 35 hours/week (not including breaks) 14 week Contract Start Date May 20th, 2016 $13.25/hour McNally House McNally House opened its doors in April 2008. The free-standing, six suite, home-like residence provides, free of charge, 24-hour specialized palliative care to people living with a terminal illness, as well as those in their life circle. The hospice is a non-profit organization serving the Niagara West communities of Grimsby, Lincoln and West Lincoln. McNally House is Ontario’s first rural teaching hospice and has been recognized nationally as a leader in palliative care. Along with the highly skilled professional staff, McNally over 150 volunteers who give of their time and talents each week to help the residents and their families deal with life’s greatest challenges. Qualifications: Post-Secondary Studies in the field of non-profit management, special event coordination, social services, volunteer management or health Care Proficient in the English language, additional languages appreciated Proficient work ethic; excellent communication skills, self-motivated, good organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work individually or in a team environment. Driver’s License Own transportation Current Police Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check Ability to express oneself orally and in writing at a post-secondary level Flexible and able to work with a calming presence Highly proficient in Word, Excel and database management. Applicant must be: ─ Between the ages of 15 and 30 ─ Was registered as full-time student during the preceding academic year ─ Intends to return to school full-time during the next academic year Opportunities for Professional Development: The student will gain non-clinical experience in palliative care family and client supports, fundraising, volunteer services, database management, program development, food handling, front line reception and meal preparation in a residential hospice environment. Training will be provided in the following areas; Work Place Health and Safety, Human Resource, Introduction to Working within Hospice Palliative Care. Reporting to Both the Administrative Coordinator and the Volunteer Coordinator, the Summer Student will assist the McNally House staff in: Fund Development Special Event Planning and Implementing Donor Recognition Database management Volunteer Management Development of Training Materials Volunteer Scheduling Bereavement Program Planning Compassionate Communities Residential Support, including: Compassionate and supportive listening to resident and family members. Vigil sitting Reading, playing of music, letter writing. Other duties to assist house operation include but are not limited to cleaning, watering plants, general organization, and assisting in the kitchen preparing the residents meals. General reception and accepting donations while on the reception desk.
