JW Marriott Desert Springs
74855 COUNTRY CLUB DRIVE, PALM DESERT, CA
The JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa is located in Palm
Desert, California, in the heart of the Coachella Valley, home
to nearby Palm Springs and other popular resort communities –
making it an easy drive from the greater Los Angeles area. Three
majestic mountain ranges provide a dramatic backdrop to the
spectacular property and our championship golf courses.
Situated on 450 acres of lushly landscaped grounds and
lagoons, the JW Marriott Desert Springs is a sprawling oasis
offering a remarkable contrast to the stark beauty of the desert.
The Four Star, Four Diamond, award-winning property opened in
February 1987, and is one of the largest resorts in the southwestern
United States. The guest rooms and suites are located in five-toeight-story wings surrounding swimming pools, lakes, verdant
fairways, lush English gardens, and manicured lawns. From the
moment you enter the resort’s breathtaking atrium lobby, you
will begin a journey into a world of relaxed elegance, singular
amenities, and exemplary service.
Desert Springs JW Marriott during the last couple of years
completed its $30 million lobby renovation that utterly redefines
the multi-level open space into warm and welcoming areas for
meeting and networking.
A relocated and updated full bar, more casual seating, and
a sophisticated new sushi bar have created a “living room”
atmosphere in this eighty-story atrium.
2
Natural rock and stone accent the spacious atrium. The
mezzanine, defined by carpeted and wood floor areas, offers
contemporary soft seating positioned to take in grand views
of the lagoon and desert mountains.
The resort’s famous Venetian-like waterways literally begin
in the lobby. Gondolas await to transport guests to dinner and on
afternoon tours. No matter where the destination - a tour of the
impressive grounds or an evening of dining and dancing at one the
resort’s many restaurants and night clubs -- it’s easy to fall under
the spell as the gondola slowly drifts past cascading waterfalls and
the calls of exotic birds fill the air.

Regulatory Affairs Committee (RAC) –
4:00 pm to 5:30 pm
The Regulatory Affairs Committee is responsible for monitoring
State and National legislation and government rule making that
impacts AAMA members and the window and door industry.
The RAC is a report-only committee with recommended
actions approved by the general membership and assigned to the
appropriate Council(s), Committee(s), Board or Staff. The RAC
also provides a forum for reporting of industry specific activities
affiliated organizations such as ASHRAE, IGMA and ASTM.
Key regulatory and legislative issues of interest at the national
level include the Lead Remodeling and Repair Rule (EPA), 25C
tax credits (ARRA), Regulatory Reform, ENERGY STAR (DOE
and EPA), and China Aluminum extrusion anti-dumping tariffs
(DOC and ITC). On the state level, California leads the way
with regulations on formaldehyde, dust and vinyl in packaging.
As more and more regulations are announced by our legislators
and with the variations in state-level requirements, this session
provides critical information for all AAMA members.
The Old Mining Camp is a replica of an Old Mining Town of
the late 1800’s. The camp includes a walk-through mine, antique
wagons, old mining equipment and a cowboy town. You can try
your hand at straw-cow roping, shooting gallery and gold panning.
This event is part of the registration fee and includes transportation, BBQ dinner buffet, open bar and entertainment.
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28
Code Action Committee (CAC) – 8:30 am – 10:00 am

change proposals, public comments and AAMA positions

International Building Code is to begin in January 2012 with the
submittal deadline for code change proposals to that code.
In preparation for the IgCC Final Action Hearings in
November 2011 AAMA Code Consultant, Julie Ruth, will
update attendants on Public Comments that have been submitted
by AAMA and parties other than AAMA and AAMA positions
will be developed on the most pertinent Public Comments. In preparation for the January 2012 deadline for code
change proposals to the 2015 International Building Code, Julie
will provide a summary of the 2009 International Building Code.
Issues to be addressed in the next edition of the International
Building Code will then be discussed at this meeting and targets

an ever-changing palette of beauty and color and gorgeous views of

the awesome power of nature and the tortured landscape bears
witness to the collision of the North American and Pacific plates.
As the sun sets, breath-taking rock formations come alive with
vibrant colors and dramatic shadows.

SPONSORS & PUBLICATIONS
Conference Material
Format At AAMA Events
Attendees will receive a flash drive and a small conference
packet at no additional cost upon checking in onsite. The
flash drive will contain individual agenda files, procedures,
member lists and previous conference minutes. The files will
also be emailed to attendees prior to the event.
The entire agenda book file will also be accessible via
the Fall conference page on the AAMA Web site. Agenda
files both on the AAMA Web site, as well as the flash drives
will be sorted by council and then alphabetically to most
easily locate particular agendas. This will allow attendees the
opportunity to review meeting agendas and other meeting
materials in advance, rather than waiting until arrival at the
conference.
Reducing the amount of printed materials used at
AAMA events is a part of efforts to become more environmentally friendly in our practices as an association. In
providing a flash drive and small conference packet in lieu of
a full printed agenda book, the amount of paper used will be
decreased, and the electronic files on the flash drive can also
be kept for future use.
