Paul Beal Congregational Care To contact Pastor Paul: 330-650-2650 x23 [email protected] Congregational Care September 2016 CONGREGATIONAL CARE SEPTEMBER 2016 Each year the summer seems to go too quickly. The fall brings a special beauty in this part of the country with all kinds of activity. The school year begins for our children and youth and families. Football season begins for high schools, colleges and professionals and their fans. The days grow shorter and the holidays will soon be here. In churches the pace of activity is also on the increase. What is on my mind as we enter the fall season is being involved in groups where spiritual growth is fostered and caring for one another occurs. I am involved with a group of 12-15 seniors at Laurel Lake where the topic of study will be Faith Is the Answer, But What Are the Questions? There are many questions about life, God, God’s will and purpose, the Bible, Life, Death, The Church and its Mission, etc. When we are young we wonder what we will be when we grow up and who will we meet to enter into a permanent relationship of loving and caring for a lifetime. In our young adult lives we spend much of our time earning a living and raising families. In our middle adult years we continue to seek growth and support to deal with crises that confront us. As we enter our older adult years we begin to concern ourselves with the finality of our earthly lives and our legacy. Where are you in your journey? What are the questions you are facing and concerned with? Is there any interest among you in being a part of a group which would seek questions mentioned above or other questions of interest? Are there any among you who would want to be part of a support group for persons who are grieving, facing illnesses such as cancer or dementia, or other issues? Or, perhaps are any of you simply interested in improving the quality of your life through spiritual exercises or study? If any of the above suggestions appeals to you, or if you have any other need and would like to be part of a group who would commit to a short term (4-8 weeks) group discussion and sharing of resources, please contact me or Pastor Hoyte by email or phone. Hudson United Methodist Church offers an array of music groups and we are always looking for more musicians! Whether you are a virtuoso or just like to sing in the shower, we want you! Our groups are a blend of seasoned musicians and beginners and EVERYONE is welcome. Come join us in one or more of the following groups and praise God through the timpani and cymbals! (and voices, and bells…..and other instruments….) The following groups are ready to begin a new year: CHANCEL CHOIR Led by Terri Wilhelm, this group meets on Thursday nights from 7:30pm to 9pm in the choir room. The group performs a variety of music from gospel to classical for weekly Sunday worship and other special worship. An annual cantata or special event service is offered as well as performances on Christmas Eve, Easter and Music Appreciation Sunday. Many members believe this is one of the best ways to connect to the church and to its members while serving the Lord. Words like “fun” and “caring” have been used to describe members in the group. If you are interested in joining, please contact Terri Wilhelm at [email protected]. CHANCEL BELL CHOIR This group of sixteen ringers meets every week on Thursdays, with a new time schedule starting this year from 6:15pm to 7:30pm. They perform once a month and for special worship services like Easter, Christmas and Music Appreciation Sunday. Along with regular ringers, the group is always interested in having “fill-in” ringers. With the generous gift of five bells from the Memorials, Endowments and Gifts Committee this last year, we have the ability to increase our membership to up to 4 ½ octaves of bells. Come join us! We have a lot of fun and enjoy making new friends! Terri Wilhelm leads this group and can be reached at [email protected] with questions, or if you are interested in participating. Page 8 SEPTEMBER muse MUSE JOYFUL NOISE CHOIR (Rehearsals will start on September 22nd) Carol Wilke leads this group of 2nd through 7th grade singers who perform once a month for Sunday worship service. CRUSADERS CHOIR (Rehearsals will start on September 22nd) This cherubic group of kindergarten through 1st grade students is a glory to behold!
