Action Sheet 5.1 Youtube Youtube Video Marketing Tips Watch What is Already Working, and Follow! Before you upload a wellproduced video of yourself performing or pay for a multimillion dollar camera shoot, I strongly caution you to take a look at what is “going viral” on YouTube. They make this easy by posting the most viewed video here: http:// www.youtube.com/charts. I suggest you watch the most viewed videos in the music categories for several weeks, and see if you can decipher a trend or come up with an idea that might fit for you on this mostviewed chart list before you outline your own content strategy or add to it. Think about Your Audience. Keep in mind that many people watch videos while they are at work. And people pass along videos that are funny, amusing or interesting to them in some form or fashion. Make Your Video Less than Three Minutes. The closer you keep your video to the three minute mark, the more likely people are to watch the video in it’s entirety. http://www.cyberpr.com Always Include a Call to Action (CTA) Remember, in order to get people to take action, you need to tell them what to do. Add a Call to Action (CTA) to every video you post. A CTA could be “Follow us on Twitter,” “Like us on Facebook” or “Visit Our Site.” Only include one CTA in each video you post so you donʼt confuse your audience. Without a CTA, you are leaving potential traffic on the table. The whole point of videos is to drive traffic back to your site. (You remember that, yes?) It Doesn’t Have to be Fancy or Expensive to be Viral! Look at the charts. There are a lot of videos on YouTube that are lofi and not “produced.” And they get millions of views. Remember the Purpose of Videos. The reason you make videos in the first place is important to remember! It is not just to get a lot of views (thatʼs just the beginning); it is to get people to take an action. Whether that action is coming back to your website or following you on Facebook or Twitter, itʼs critical to remember why you made your video. Keep your eye on the end goal and make sure you constantly measure your videosʼ effectiveness. Know What People are Searching for. Remember that YouTube is a search engine. This means people are searching for things that they already know and love on YouTube. So, including content that people already know is crucial, because they are already looking for it! Here is a site (set up by YouTube) where you can actually research exactly what people are searching for word for word: http://youtubetrends.blogspot.com/ Cover Songs Really Work! In 2013, I interviewed YouTube cover song phenomenon Tiffany Alvord. She explained her formula for how she got millions of viewers to watch her videos: http://bit.ly/ ViralVidTi. There was quite a reaction to this interview. I was met with a lot of sneering, older musicians saying, “Iʼm not a hot, young teen. I canʼt do that.” If you are having this same reaction, my answer to you is, “Yes you can!” Granted, there is a trend on YouTube of many young teens Copyright © 2011 2016 Ariel Hyatt and Ariel Publicity, Artist Relations, and Booking, LLC. Here is an example of a Cyber PR® artist, Jane Lui, who uses covers beautifully to attract fans (and she is well above 16!): http://www.youtube.com/LuieLand. Before you start writing off this strategy as something for tweens; think again. Fans that already know and love many songs that are near and dear to their hearts may actually find out about you if you create a cover song that captivates them!
