The $ lost some momentum after Fed Yellen spoke a of gradual pace of rate
hikes and sounded less hawkish than some had expected in her last speech
in early Asian trading.
The $ index had hit a recent high on the back of upbeat jobs and housing
data until Yellen’s speech.
Investors will now look towards Trump’s inauguration speech to see if he
mentions any of his protectionist rhetoric.
The 10-year US treasury yield had spiked to a high of 2.496% yesterday, but
eased back to 2.461% after Yellen spoke.
The EUR/$ had opened around 1.0660 and spent the Asian session edging
higher.
The EUR/$ had fallen yesterday after the ECB’s press conference but had
rebounded when Draghi noted there was no policy changes.
Reaction was limited to a batch of Chinese data that showed the economy
grew at 6.8% in the forth quarter, slightly higher than expected, supported by
higher government spending and record bank lending.
