President's Report
Dear Rotarians
Last week, our guest speaker was Kristen Alexander who talked to us about
Australians involved in the Great Escape. Kristen was an excellent story-teller who
made the story really come alive and I received a lot of positive feedback from
members.
Thanks to those Rotarians who assisted with the Science and Engineering
Challenge which was held at the University of Tasmania Newnham Campus.
Rotarian Henk did an excellent job in organising the assistance. It was really
satisfying and encouraging to attend this forum and to experience the enthusiasm
with which the students approached their various projects. Hopefully events such
as this will encourage more young people to consider a career in engineering and
the sciences.
We received advanced notice that the Rotary 9830 District Changeover Luncheon
will be held at the Riverside Golf Club on Sunday 26 th June and 12 noon (cost
$35 per person). Last year we had a reasonable sized contingent from South
Launceston Rotary Club attend this function. It would be good if we could do this
again this year. RSVPs are due by the 17th June (with payment).
And lastly, the final Club Board Meeting for this Rotary year will be held on
Thursday 9th June following our regular meeting.
Well that’s all for now. I look forward to seeing you at the Grand Chancellor on
Thursday night.
Regards
President Les

A huge thank you to Kevin Preece
The role of Club Program Coordinator has been Kevin's for the last two years and we
would all agree that he has provided us with some fantastic and well connected guest
speakers. It can be challenging coordinating people, dates and topics so that our
meetings are filled with interesting stories and thought provoking information. Thank
you
for
all
your
hard
work,
Kevin.
On that note, Fraser Nuttall will be taking over the role after the change over time on
July 2nd. He already has a couple of great speakers lined up! In the next few weeks,
he will be putting out some 'cheat sheets' for Rotarians who would like to tell their story
and give us some insight into what they do and what they are passionate about. Your
15 minutes to shine!
