Ma20-3 Lesson 7

Ma20-3 Lesson 7
In this lesson you will explore some of these design factors as you
compare slopes and use these comparisons to discuss safety and
functionality.
In this lesson you will answer the following questions:
1)How can the difference between two slopes be described?
2) What safety and functionality issues are created by a slope?

3. Which slide do you think would be the fastest? What is the fastest
slide's slope?
What is the relationship between the value of the slope and the
steepness of the slide?
What do you notice about the steepness of the water slides when
the rise and run of the slope are switched?

Answers :
1 The standard number of inches of run used with a roof pitch is 12.
2
3
4 Roof c is the steepest because its slope is the greatest.
5
The steeper the roof, the more likely that someone working on the roof
will accidentally slide down. The steepest roof will be the most dangerous
unless suitable safety precautions are taken.
6a) When dealing with roofs, the word pitch is used in place of slope.
b) A 6:12 roof rises 6 in every foot, whereas a 12:6 roof rises 24 in every
foot.
c) The roof with a slope of 12:6 is steeper, since it rises 24 in every foot
compared to 6 in every foot.
Answers :
1 There is a constant slope for the workers to step on.
2 The more steps, the bigger the rise. When the rise increases, the
slope becomes steeper.
