ON YOUR MARK
a quarterly newsletter of fisherman’s mark
Summer 2016, Volume 5, Issue 3
WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW AT THE MARK
What happens when people come together to build a better community? Magic. This Summer we finalized our move
into our new home at the Hibernia Firehouse, with the addition of our last program: The Fisherman’s Mark Food Pantry.
The amazing teamwork that made this entire move a reality is simply inspiring. A HUGE THANK YOU to all of our
volunteers (especially the fearless “Build Team”) and staff who literally pulled this all together.
FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN’T YET SEEN OUR NEW SPACE, COME TO OUR OPEN HOUSE,
OCTOBER 1ST FROM 2:00PM – 5:00PM. YOU WILL BE AMAZED.
MAKING YOUR MARK:
It has been a busy and HEALTHY summer at The Mark!
The long term health consequences of poverty are significant and access to healthy food is critical to reducing these health
disparities. A consistent effort across all programs of Fisherman’s Mark is health and wellness. It starts with education
about nutrition and access to healthy food. Through community partnerships and collaborative efforts Fisherman’s Mark
has positioned itself to provide these vital resources and experiences to our community. The support of Local Farms
and Farmers, which is facilitated through partnerships such as Rolling Harvest Food Rescue and the Shop-Rite Grow
–A-Row Program are just two examples of how fresh produce is made available to our Food Pantry and F3 Farm Stand
ACCESS TO HEATHY FOOD PARTNERSHIPS
programs. This, combined with demonstrations and information provided by guest educators such NJ-CEED, NJ-SNAP-ED,
Mothering Spirit, etc. further reinforce that message. Everyone can benefit from health education! Our preschool children
at Lambertville Academy participate in a weekly cooking club where experimentation through the five senses helps
introduce the students to new foods and teaches them about the various cultures that cook with them. By fostering a
healthy relationship with food, promoting access to fresh produce and teaching everyone, at all ages, how it benefits us
mind, body and soul, our community will continue to thrive.
