daurrodó - La meva Barcelona

DAURRODÓ is a spectacle about the world, a world of worlds,
languages, references and invitations. Because the people whose history are legends and fables is a happy people.
DAURRODÓ is the story of the river which has three banks and
the man who appeared and disappeared in the middle of that
river. This story is not true nor is it a lie but quite the opposite. In
the jungle there are no lies but individual truths.
DAURRODÓ breathes the invitation of Mario Pedrosa “art as
an experimental exercise of freedom” and weaves networks of
freedom with the public’s play.
A river with three banks? Round dice? Networks of freedom?
DAURRODÓ is a story of paradoxes and mysteries, worldworlds.
We try to work with that wonderful possibility that the visual arts
offer, to create for each new idea a new language to express it.

02 SYNOPSIS
A painter and stage director from Barcelona who has recreated theatrically the imagination of great visual artists, from Joan
Miró to Antonio Saura, now presents his view on an artist who
has done much in redefining conceptual art.
The Brazilian artist Cildo Meireles speaks about social and political issues, but also raises aesthetic and ethical questions in
works that take the form of objects and installations. In them,
Meireles attempts to give spectators a complete sensory experience.
How can his works be turned into a stage production? Joan
Baixas does just this in a project at the TNC created in cooperation with Antoni Miró and Vicent Todolí.
The piece is set in an unconventional space, with a central stage
around which spectators move to observe such works as Pano
da roda, an installation that receives them at the corners of the

hall; the scenic collage Aperitius Melierenses; the giant broom in
La bruixa; a work entitled Not to be or not to be, eis a questao,
which brings spectators face-to- face with their own image; and
a version of João Guimarães-Rosa’s short story The Third Bank
of the River.
All is made into theatre by the personal language and stagecraft
of the man who was the director of Teatre de la Claca, who uses
painting, puppets and masks combined with projected images.
A spectacle which is at the same time pictorial and theatrical
and that brings the work of one of the most important artists of
the moment onto the stage. Humour, poetry and a close look at
the contemporary world.
Piece nº1
Pano da roda. Installation with the audience moving. When
the audience enters the theater it must follow a labyrinthine path through various elements (videos, fences, objects)
installed in the corridors and stairways of the theater until
arriving at space of the stage. On its way the actors, who
have already initiated various actions individually, are met.

Meireles.
Piece nº 2
Not to be or not to be, eis a questao. Installation with the
audience sitting. A large spy-mirror comes down parallel
to the center line of the stage, dividing it into two halves.
The two audience stands are facing the mirror, which allows
transparency or reflection depending on where the light is
concentrated. Half of the audience remains in the dark, watching the other half that is illuminated and sees itself reflected in the mirror. The game is repeated several times in both
directions with slight variations in illumination. The scene
consist in the audience seeing itself without the intervention
of the actors.
Piece nº 3
Aperitivos melierenses. Parade of paradoxes. The audience occupies the seats. A parade of gray, anonymous charac7 de 24
ters that animate different objects: virtual volume, dollar-carrots, swords joined at their ends, weights and measures,
covered of flags, money, newspapers.
Piece nº 4
A terceira margem do rio. Text: The third bank of the river,
by Joao Guimaraes-Rosa.

Piece nº 5
La Bruja. Dance of masks reproducing drawings of CildoMeireles. It starts with the puppet of the previous scene and
ends up being a party where the masks invite the audience
to participate and hand out cardboard masks. The masked
audience applauds the unmasked actors.
Piece nº 6
Outopia, nowhere city. Collective sculpture in a space outside the theater. A workshop where the audiences build, with
small pieces of plastic that fit together, forms and structures
which go adding up and transforming into a big sculpture
that grows throughout the days and which is animated, at
certain times, with small scenes of paper puppets.

05 CILDO MEIRELES
Cildo Meireles is a conceptual artist with an international reputation, creating objects and installations that lead directly to the
viewer in a complete sensory experience (synesthesia).
Meireles has played a key role in the national and international
artistic production, positioning himself in the transition of Brazilian art between neo-concretist production beginning in the
1960s and his own generation, already influenced by the proposals of conceptual art, installations and performances.
The works of Meireles not only reflect poetic and social issues
specific to Brazil, but also general aesthetic problems of the artistic object.

The New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York presented
in 1999 a retrospective of his work, organized by Dan Cameron
and Gerardo Mosquera. The exhibition traveled thereafter to the
Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro and the São Paulo
Museum of Modern Art. A book entitled Cildo Meireles (Phaidon
Press, 1999), was published simultaneously with the exhibition.
In 1999 Meireles received a Prince Claus Award and in 2008 the
important Velázquez Visual Arts Prize, awarded by the Ministry
of Culture of Spain.
In 2013, there was a major exhibition of Meireles in Madrid, organized by the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía,
co-organized with the Museum Serralves in Oporto and the Angar Bicocca in Milan. It supposed to be a review of modernity in
Latin America.

06 ANTONI MIRÓ
Son of a tailor, Antoni Miró opened his first shop in Barcelona,
Groc, with only twenty years, earning a success that led him in
1986 to create its own brand, Antoni Miró. His brand has been
a pioneer in the Spanish fashion market and has achieved notoriety when presenting its collections at international fashion
gateways such as Paris, Milan, Florence, Tokyo and New York.
In 1988 he was awarded the Cristóbal Balenciaga prize for the
“best Spanish designer.” He was in charge of realizing all the
costumes for the ceremonies of the Barcelona Olympics in 1992.
In 1997 he designed the new backdrop for the reconstruction of
the Gran Teatre del Liceu and in 2000 he received the Fad medal, awarded by the Association of Industrial Design Promotion
of Decorative Arts for his career. In February 2003 he was awarded the “Antoni Gaudí, Moda Barcelona” Medal of the Pasarela
Gaudi.

In January 1999 he was one of the ten fashion designers who
founded the Association of Fashion Designers of Spain, an organization that declared to seek “improvement of productivity and
the sector’s image inside and outside the Spanish market”.
In his clothing the simplicity shows a personal mark that does not
exclude perfectionism in the making of the garments, which are
usually made of soft and natural fabrics. His shows are always
original and he was the first one who took street people rather
than models to the catwalk, giving with them his personal vision
of fashion.
His major markets are Japan and the United Kingdom, and his
collections are found in boutiques and department stores worldwide, like Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Osetan, Flannels, Fidelio,
Swank Shop and Barney’s.
