PLEASE MEASURE IN INCHES & DECIMALS TWO DIGITS. (EXAMPLE: 7.62 INCHES)
GIRTH MEASUREMENT:
Place a flexible tape measure under the dog so it rests up into both arm pits (against the
front legs) of the dog. Now measure the circumference of the dog from this point. You will
want to leave this flexible tape measure in place to perform the Anterior Chest
Measurement. If you do not have a second flexible tape measure, substitute a string in
the place of the tape measure for the Girth Measurement.

ANTERIOR CHEST MEASUREMENT:
Leaving either a string or a tape measure in the Girth Measurement
Position, will prevent you from over measuring the Anterior Chest
Measurement by providing distinct borders for its measurement.
Place your second tape measure at Point A at the front border of the
Girth Tape Measure (or string) on the left side of the dog. Measure
from the front of the Girth Tape Measure (or string) on the left side of
the dog (Point A), to the same point at the front of the Girth Tape
Measure (or string) on the right side of the dog.

THIGH MEASUREMENT:
Use 1/2" to 3/4" nylon or cloth adhesive tape to measure:
Cut off a piece of tape about 3" to 4" longer than you think
you will need to go around your dog’s thigh. Place your finger
(Fig. 1) in the Groin of your dog’s back leg so you can
determine where the leg meets the body of the dog. Place
the center of the tape from over the front of the upper leg
about 1/2" to 3/4" below the spot you have found to be the
top of your dog’s leg. Pull both ends of the tape towards the
back of the thigh angling down slightly about 5 degrees.
Cross the tape ends over each other at this point, making the
tape snug but not squeezing (Fig. 2). Mark the tape at the
point where it overlaps the short side. Now take the tape off
and place it on a ruler or yardstick and measure the length of
it up to your mark. This is your dog’s circumference at his
thigh. Repeat this measurement for consistency and
measure both legs.

Alternative to Tibia X-ray Measurement
for the A-TraC Dynamic Brace®
If you cannot obtain an X-ray you may use this measurement as an alternative. It should be noted that this
measurement is not quite as accurate and should only be used when a tibia X-ray is not attainable.
Please obtain all the other measurements on the main instructions sheet as well as this measurement
and then call 847-634-1700 for assistance.

1. Have the dog standing. If it is difficult for your dog to stand have someone assist the dog with weight bearing. Put a towel or
cloth under his back end and lift up gently to take some weight off the dog's back legs.
2. Place a yardstick with the one inch side of the stick touching the ground (A). and the 36 inch side at the top.
3. Place the flat side of the yardstick against the dog’s left front leg and align the back edge of the yardstick with the back edge of
the dog’s leg (B).
4. Place the flat side of a foot ruler over the dog’s shoulder blades (C).
5. With your fingers push down firmly over the foot ruler to compress any fur in this area. (D).
6. Make sure the foot ruler crosses the yardstick at a 90 degree angle (E). If the foot ruler angles up it will falsely increase the
measurement. If the foot ruler angles down it will falsely decrease the measurement.
7. Read the measurement where the foot ruler crosses the yardstick (F). This is the withers measurement or height of the dog at
its withers.
