SPIKE LIGHTS Lithium Cell Information All high-density energy sources carry with them a certain amount of risk. This is especially true for the lithium based rechargeable cells used in modern laptops, mobile phones, and your Spike Light. To minimise the chance of damage to property or person, special precautions should always be taken when using any device with a rechargeable lithium-based cell. Safety information: • Do not place the battery in fire or apply heat to the battery. • Never pierce or damage the cell or battery casing. All Spike Lights cells are encased in steel for protection. Nonetheless it is still possible to pierce this casing with a hammer and nail or with extreme impacts. If a cell or battery is visually damaged on the outside then stop using it immediately. • Avoid contact with water, especially salt water. Headlamp batteries must remain in their waterproof case. • Do not disassemble or modify the battery or individual cells. • All cells sold by Spike Lights are ‘Protected’. That is, they contain a special circuit which monitors the battery state and prevents situations which may cause explosion. If a battery fails to work or charge correctly, it may be that the protection circuit is has shut down the cell for safety reasons. Do not attempt to remove the protection circuit. • Never buy or use ‘Unprotected’ cells. • Do not leave the battery in direct sunlight, or use or store the battery inside cars in hot weather. • Never short circuit a cell. • Spike Lights has never had a lithium cell explode or burn. In the event of a lithium-cell fire, do not apply water. Water will make it burn more violently. Use a fire extinguisher or bury with dry sand or dirt. Charging Best Practices: • Use only the charger provided. • Do not leave a cell charging unattended. • Do not leave a cell connected to the charger for more than an hour after the charge indicator has shown that the cell is full. • Do not charge a cell on or near any flammable, easily damaged or valuable surfaces or objects. • Keep an extinguisher nearby and a bucket of dry sand. By using a lithium-cell, you acknowledge the potential for fire or explosion and accept the risk. Spike Lights and Ashley Horton will not accept any responsibility for damage to property or person caused by the use of a lithium cell or any Spike Light product. Optional Cell Maintenance for Maximum Performance and Life: • Lithium cells have no discharge memory. • Recharge your cells after every use. • If a cell will be not be used for more than a month, then charge it up fully and then discharge it to around 40-80% capacity before storing it. Never leave a fully discharged cell for more than a day without charging it. • Keep cells between 0 and 50 degrees Celsius. If you have any questions or cell problems, please contact Ashley ([email protected], 0417980293).
