application

NewtoUniSA–allcontinuingandfixed-termacademicstaffappointedfrom1
July2016withteachingresponsibilitieswillundertakeaSPRTaspartoftheir
probationaryperiod

Identifiedbytheirlinemanager(throughtheperformancedevelopmentand
managementprocess)aslikelytobenefitfromaSPRTtoenhanceelementsof
theirteachingpractice.
TheSPRTprocessfurthercomplementsotherformsofteachingandlearningdata,e.g.
myCourseExperience,studentfeedback,learninganalytics,gradedistributions,
progressionrates,etc.thatcollectivelycanbeusedtoinformactivitiessuchas
probation,promotionandperformancedevelopment.

OverviewoftheSPRTprocess
OncetheSPRTactivityhasbeeninitiatedandthetworeviewersareinplace,thereisa
threestepprocesswhichconsistsofa3hourworkload:
1. Therevieweemeetswithbothreviewersforuptoonehourtodiscusswhat
theywishtohavereviewed(e.g.liveteaching,educationalresources,
learnonlinesite,virtualclassroometc).
2. Thereviewisundertakenbybothreviewersattheagreedtime.Thereview
activitycantakenolongerthanonehour.
3. Thereviewersconstructasinglereport,whichissenttotherevieweewhohas
theopportunitytolodgeabriefreflectivestatementrespondingtothereport
beforesubmittingittotheHOSorA/HOS.
InitiatingaSPRT
•
Thefirststageistheinitiationstage–andmayoccurinameetingbetweenthe
reviewee/applicantandtheHOSortheHOScaninitiatetheactivity
independently
•
TheHOSorA/HOSlogontotheSPRTsoftwareandselectthepurposeforthe
review(promotion,probation;performancedevelopment)
•
IndiscussiontheHOSandtherevieweeselectthecoursethatwillbeassociated
withthereview
•
TheHOSandtherevieweethenreviewthepooloftrainedreviewersandselect
twonames(onefromthereviewee’sSchool/disciplineandtheotherfromthe
DivisionorfromanotherDivision)
•
Selectingthetworeviewersduringameetingaspartofadiscussionmay
decreasethepossibilityoftherevieweerejectingthereviewersselectedbythe
HOSorA/HOS(whichtheyareallowedtodoonce).
•
Thiswilltriggeranemailtoeachofthereviewerswhohavetheoptionof
acceptingordecliningtheinvitationtoundertakeapeerreviewofteaching
activity
•
Oncethereviewersareinplaceanemailistriggeredtoall3parties(reviewee
and2reviewers)toinformthemthatthenextstage(thepre-reviewmeeting)is
readytobegin.
Acknowledgingthefinalreportandrejoinder

Oncethepre-reviewmeetingandtheobservationactivityhavetakenplacethe
tworeviewerswriteacollaborativereportwhichissenttotherevieweefora
response/rejoinder
•
Oncetherejoinderiscompleted(ornot)boththereportandrejoinderare
submittedtotheHOSbythereviewee.
