Light Industrial Uses 1970 - 1981 Automation Products, Inc. 1970 – 1973 John Cleary was awarded a use variance for the vacant building to engage in a light manufacturing operation generally described as engineering, design and manufacturing of mechanical devices. The first floor was proposed to be used for manufacturing and the second floor for office space. Parking was to be provided at Sparkill Plaza. An offer to purchase the building for $40,000 was noted as being above the appraisal value of $37,000 and very advantageous to the Sparkill – Palisades Fire District due to the maintenance expense of the vacant building. Animated Toys Inc., 1973 – 1975 Animated Toys Inc. filed as a Domestic Business Corporation on March 12, 1970, in Queens. It was a subsidiary of Dansul Realty Corporation. David Weissmann was president of Dansul Realty and owner of Animated Toys. A use variance was granted in October 1973 for light manufacturing, i.e., finishing, packaging, storing and shipping of toys and novelty statuettes. Ten employees were anticipated. In 1975 Animated Toys Inc. moved operations to the rear of the first floor to accommodate George Coleman, owner of PBC Sales Associates, who leased the front of the first floor to conduct wholesale sales and storage of solder and flux products. Sparkill Manufacturing Limited 1974 - 1976 Owner William Hoovis was granted permission on March 8, 1974, to lease the second floor for assembling pre-cut dress materials by sewing and steam pressing. Parking was permitted in the adjacent church lot with a five year lease. Limit of eight employees. Mr. Hoovis, 46, testified that he had two such operations in New York City and he was considering closing one operation and moving it to this location. The garment workers union requested that he try to locate the operation in the Piermont – Sparkill area so as to employ many of the women that had been left unemployed by the closing of a dress manufacturing business in Pearl River. Vita Cross Corp. 1978 - 1981 A certificate of occupancy for the first floor was issued to Dansul Realty Corp. of 14 Tammy Road, Spring Valley, N.Y., for Vita Cross Corp. to conduct retail sales of vitamins. Vita Cross had moved to Sparkill from Jill Lane in Monsey. Vitamins were bottled from batch lots to retail sales unit bottles.
