Thank you to Westman Dreams for Kids and George Sheard, owner of McDonald’s
Restaurants in Brandon and Neepawa, for their donation to the Foundation in the
amount of $39,300 representing proceeds from the Westman Dreams for Kids/
McDonald’s Classic Golf Tournament.

The Foundation for a Healthier Community
This donation was directed to the Single Room Maternity Unit (SRMU) at the BRHC
and the Child & Adolescent Treatment Centre (CATC). For SRMU, a transport monitor
to monitor fetal heart while sending mothers to the Surgical Suite for emergency
caesarean sections and two Bilisoft phototherapy units to treat jaundiced newborns
have been purchased. A laptop and projector for educational purposes has been
purchased for CATC.

the purchase of a BladderScan Ultrasound
machine for oncology clinic and radiation
therapy treatments at the Western Manitoba Cancer Centre.

The machine will measure urinary output or bladder volume prior to radiation therapy
treatment, vital to avoiding and minimizing acute and long term radiation complications

WestJet Gift of Flight Raffle
The Foundation is pleased to announce the winners of the “Gift of Flight” WestJet Raffle (MGCC 4606-RF) draws made

The Gift of Flight Raffle launch coincided with the arrival of WestJet service on September 3, 2013, with prizes generously
donated by WestJet in support of the Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Units at the BRHC. Proceeds were approximately
$20,000. The BRHC Foundation extends its thanks to WestJet and the Westman community for supporting this fundraising
initiative.

2013 Gala Proceeds Benefits Patients

The Foundation is pleased to announce that proceeds in the amount of $57,781 from the 2013
Gala Dinner and Dance fundraiser have been used to purchase an ECG (Electrocardiography)
unit for Diagnostic Imaging, Cardiology Department and a Transport Ventilator for Diagnostic
Imaging, Respiratory Department. The state of the art ECG unit will allow ECG tracings to be
sent electronically to a workstation for reporting as well as to Electronic Health Records. The
Transport Ventilator, with its smaller size and new technology, will be used for transporting
patients by ambulance, including infants, who otherwise would require air transportation.
Joining co-chairs Marci Crisanti and Brenda Burgess on the 2013 Gala Committee were
Jodi Fawcett, Kerri Lynn Gudz, Kelly Lumbard, Sally Mott, Cheryl Nelson, Jill Stewart, Peggy
Turnbull, Barb Webber and Terry Leech-Atkinson. The Gala

renovations in the very near future,
with plans to create, renovate and
rejuvenate inpatient care areas that
include rooms that haven’t been
upgraded since the early 1960’s. The
Brandon Regional Health Centre
Foundation is proud to support this
initiative and will be raising funds
to enhance the care and comfort of
patients on the wards. Stay tuned for

bring the hospital’s inpatient areas
out of the past, and into the future!

Message from the Chairman of the Board
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, our donor, for your outstanding
support. We are continually working to raise funds to help meet community healthcare needs and are committed to
responsible stewardship of the gifts entrusted to us. As you will note from the front page, you are helping us make a
significant difference at the Brandon Regional Health Centre!
With your support of our signature events, the gifts we receive from community groups, tribute donations, third party
fundraisers, and personal gifts, we are achieving our mission, “To raise funds to support healthcare needs in the regional
community”.
The Foundation Board of Directors is looking forward, with great excitement and anticipation, to the opening of Murray
House cancer treatment residence.
The generosity of Brandon and area as a community continually amazes and inspires us.
Virden Oil Caps
The Foundation sincerely thanks the Virden Oil Capitals Junior A hockey
team, as well as their executive, staff and fans, for their donation of $1,147.45
for the Western Manitoba Cancer Centre.
In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Virden Oil Capitals
Junior A hockey team championed the cause by having a Pink Night last
October at Tundra Oil & Gas Place. Fans were treated to pink line-up cards,
players sported pink laces and stick tape, and the coaches wore pink ties.
Monies were raised during the evening’s silver collection as well as with
$1 donated for each person in attendance by the Virden Oil Capitals
Foundation.

Cheesecakes For Charity
Proceeds collected at the Mar Mac Farms & Guests Annual Bull Sale, Brandon,
that included individual donations, a looney collection and a very successful
cheesecake auction, resulted in a donation of $1,111.00 to the Foundation.
The donation was directed to cancer services at the BRHC in memory of Mar
Mac Farms friends and co-workers, Andrew Mooney and Rick Potter.
Thank you Mar Mac Farms for supporting the Foundation with this unique
initiative.

Joe Beeverz - “Movember”
Thank you to Dan Barnlund, General Manager of Joe Beeverz Bar and Grill as
well as the Joe staff and patrons, for their generous support of the Foundation
during Joe’s “Movember” campaign! Joe’s raised $687 for the Western Manitoba
Cancer Centre at the BRHC.
Dan explained, “We wanted to support men’s health initiatives and prostate
cancer services right here in the community that we live and look forward to
fundraising for the BRHC Foundation again in 2014!”

Nifty Needlers
A sincere thank you to the Nifty Needlers quilting group for their generous
donation of $5,667.66 in support of the Intensive Care Unit at the BRHC.
Made up of women from Brandon and surrounding communities, the Nifty
Needlers donate financially to various causes through proceeds from their
annual quilt show.
They have been generous, long-time supporters of the Foundation, raising close
to $25,000 since 2004.

The Foundation is very pleased to announce the donation of $10,300
from the Brandon Manitoba Hydro Charitable Donations Committee.
The donation was used to purchase a Bilisoft Phototherapy Unit to treat
jaundiced infants in the Pediatrics Unit of the Brandon Regional Health
Centre.
Brandon’s Manitoba Hydro Charitable Donations Committee have been
long-time, generous supporters of the Foundation. The funds are collected
from Manitoba Hydro employees in Brandon through payroll deduction
that are matched by the corporation.

Brandon Arthritis Support Group
The Foundation is pleased to share that the Brandon Arthritis Support
Group recently made a generous donation of $1,000 to benefit others who
live with arthritic pain. This donation will be used to purchase equipment
for the Pain Clinic at the Brandon Regional Health Centre.

Kiwanis Club of Brandon - Assiniboine
The Foundation is pleased to announce a donation in the amount of $2,500
from the Kiwanis Club of Brandon-Assiniboine, for the purchase of two
recliner chairs for the Single Room Maternity Unit at the BRHC. These
recliners will be used by new parents to hold, rock and feed new babies as
well as provide a place for the support person to sleep as they stay to help
new moms with baby care.
The Kiwanis Club of Brandon-Assiniboine has been a long-time supporter
of the BRHC Foundation, donating over $50,000 to date.
