THE EAST MIDLANDS BRANCH
Invites you to their September Lecture
Current State and Future of 3D Printing
By Dr Marco Simonelli
Friday 11th September 2015
It may be some time before 3D printing is used in the home to make replacement parts for
household appliances, but 3D printing has recently attracted enormous interest thanks to
the possibility offered by this technology to manufacture parts with designs never seen
before. With the media hype often overstating the current capabilities of 3D printing, Dr
Marco Simonelli, of the University of Nottingham, will describe the present state of the
technology, the benefits and drivers of the industry, its future and the current challenges
that still need to be overcome.
A tour around Nottingham universities world leading additive manufacturing research
centre is available on a first come first served basis. The tour will demonstrate 3D printing
at work and show examples of printed components. Polymer, metal and ink jet electronic
applications. Dialectric materials. Numbers for the tour are limited to 15 people. The tour
will start promptly at 15:30.
