“Practical solutions like
TouchGo: those are
the technologies we really
need.”
The bar is raised high: as a technology leader in the security
industry, our goal is to offer our customers not just an outstanding service, but also the latest in product innovation, time after
time. However, innovative technology is one thing. Practical
solutions are another. We all remember products which, once
they came up against day-to-day reality, failed spectacularly.
But there are always exceptions. Especially if the people involved
in trying out the product are even more impressed with it than
the engineers could have dreamed. If the feedback is entirely
positive and the new product plainly and simply does what it is
intended to do. Those are the technologies we really need.
TouchGo is one of them. Even at an early stage, it made a splash
and won prizes. But much more important for us is the complete success of the current pilot installations. In our report on
page 10 we let the users speak for themselves. And we can say
with pride: once again, Kaba is out in front.

Security update 2/2009
The challenges facing airlines and airports have become
ever more complex. At times, aircraft touch down and
take off every minute or so. Optimum efficiency is required.
At the same time, passengers and staff are now subject
to more stringent security checks. And, in amongst all this,
a smooth passage through the airport must be ensured
for travelers, and costs need to be kept as low as possible.
Kaba has developed dedicated solutions for airports which
help them meet these challenges.

Interview with Volker Zintel, Executive Vice President
of the Strategic Business Unit Airport Security Management at Frankfurt Airport
Mr. Zintel, Frankfurt Airport is an international hub.
How many passengers do you have a day?
On average, we have 140,000 passengers a day. Combined
with the employees of numerous service providers, visitors
and people meeting arrivals, this means there are 200,000
people moving around an area of 20 km2 each day. It is a
medium-sized city, in fact.
You use one-way corridors in several areas. What do you

data are read off, their authenticity and validity are checked,
and the door opens. Within the interlock chamber, the passenger’s biometric characteristics are then checked (iris, facial
recognition, fingerprints). Once approval has been granted, the
second door opens and the passenger leaves the interlock
after only a few seconds. If there is any doubt, the check is carried out by the border control officers in the traditional way.
Lars Rosenberger sees huge market potential for this system:
“This kind of installation could be used at almost any airport or
at any other border crossing.” Sensor-activated interlocks for
automated immigration control are currently being piloted in
several airports.
Biometrics even more important

Where is security technology heading in the future?
Let us not delude ourselves: the question everyone asks is,
how can we reduce costs. This is achieved mainly where staff
are replaced by technical solutions and can be better deployed
elsewhere.

What were the criteria which favored installation of
TouchGo?
Ours is a research center which is very open access. We want to
maintain this, but at the same time we need to pay careful attention to security. Combining both these requirements in a single
system is not easy. We wanted access control which meets our
security standards without restricting the mobility of our staff.
What does that mean in terms of implementation?
The next step I would like to see is contactless access control,
where users no longer even need to identify themselves because

Future applications
The field tests have covered a broad and
varied spectrum of applications. They
reveal, among other things, that TouchGo
can bring huge relief to the elderly or disabled in their day-to-day lives. But the
innovative system will find use not only in
old people’s and nursing homes but also in

New tracks are being built around the world. To remain competitive, we are constantly upgrading. Recently, for example, the
construction of another 40 pit complexes was approved. We
want to permanently solidify our position as the regional hub of

Version 4.0 of the SAP solution B-COMM ERP for SAP ERP has
a newly designed user interface and makes time + attendance
recording, shop floor data collection and access control even
simpler. All processes are now based on Java J2EE technology,
enabling a common language to be used throughout – from
communication at the terminal to the SAP connection. The user
interface can run on both Microsoft Internet Explorer and Firefox. As a first step, version 4.0 was certified for SAP’s HR-PDC
interface. In parallel with further development of the basic software, the user interface was redesigned: in future all new software products are to use this same interface design.

Kaba fire-rated door EI30 Design
Fitting design and fire safety all in one: the automatic Kaba firerated door EI30 Design combines optimum safety and functioning with visual elegance. In normal circumstances, this unique
product ensures smooth, contactless access, offering all the
advantages of an automatic door. If there is a fire, the door reliably subdivides the premises into separate sections, thus slowing the spread of the fire. This new product meets EN 1363-1 and
EN 1634-1 standards as well as DIN 18650 safety requirements.
Thanks to a slim profile, it fits with the most varied styles of
architecture and integrates seamlessly into both classical and
modern buildings. The new product has been available since

AS 283-SDK
Thanks to the new software development package
AS 283-SDK, it will be very easy in future to integrate networked safe locks in the Axessor range into existing or new
customer applications. The software module acts as a function library and contains the complete set of commands for
communication with Axessor safe locks. This means that
they can now be operated using any application based on
the .NET platform. The module can be incorporated within a
few hours and is easy for software engineers to use. The
complexity of security processes, for example AES-256
encryption, is invisible to the user. A dongle protects the
software module and network access, ensuring a top level of
security.

Orthos PIL-M05 interlock
In power stations, banks and government buildings, security is
top priority – particularly when it comes to access control. A
very high level of security is offered by the new Orthos PIL-M05
interlock, based as it is on the innovative detection technology
Quattrovision. Unlike conventional video monitoring systems,
this system uses four cameras, allowing it to take in the space
behind and in front of a person. Within three seconds, Quattrovision matches the 3-D image it receives against a reference
background image and searches it for human contours. The
system gives the green light only if a single person is in the
interlock. Only then will the second door open. An optional biometric identification system within the interlock furnishes additional security.

B-COMM ERP for Dynamics AX
With the B-COMM ERP for Dynamics AX communication software, Kaba now offers an integrated solution for time + attendance as well as shop floor data collection for Microsoft ERP
systems, thereby tapping a new market segment. The solution
enables Kaba terminals to connect up with Microsoft Dynamics
AX systems in versions 3.0 SP5, 4.0 and 2009, and ensures
smooth exchange of data between collection by the Microsoft
system and the periphery. The Kaba subsystem records and
validates the time + attendance data and then passes the data
to the Microsoft system for processing. This is also where data
administration takes place. The data in the ERP system are
used by the Kaba subsystem, to display time balances for
instance. The new application is scalable and can thus be
adapted easily to the size of the company using it.

Oracode 460K
No more need for keys and time-consuming check-in procedures while on vacation. Oracode allows unique time-sensitive
codes to be generated through a secure Web portal and can be
sent to guests when they make their reservations. This innovative system is easy to install and is ideally suited to vacation
rentals, property management companies, time-shares, corporate housing, individual apartments and condos. The locks also
store the last 1,000 entries, making it possible to trace when
and by whom the codes were used. There is built-in shut-down
protection in the event of tampering, providing for added security. Oracode 460K is the latest addition to the Kaba Oracode
family: it includes all the feature-rich benefits of Oracode 660,
but involves less hardware on the door.

Cencon software release 4.0
In response to evolving customer requirements, Cencon software version 4.0 has now been introduced, the latest major
software release for managing Cencon, Kaba’s trusted ATM
cash vault locking system. The all-new graphic user interface
combined with a more intuitive process flow helps reduce total
keystrokes and mouse clicks by around 45 %, thereby greatly
increasing operational efficiency. The software now supports
management of all three modes of access: dispatching of onetime combinations in FLM (First Line Maintenance) or Route
mode and setting up keys for bank mode control. A new USB
Key Box is also supported, which merges the functionality of a
key reader with the unique code generating of the PCI card. In
addition, the updated CenTran 4.0 integrates third-party operations software with Cencon.

Easy Entrance TPB-M04
With Easy Entrance TPB-M04, Kaba provides cost-effective
and flexible access to washroom facilities or other areas
where there is a charge for use. The principle is simple: for
patrons, use of the washroom facilities is free, as the charge
paid is reimbursed through a payback coupon. All other users
make a contribution towards cleaning and maintenance. This
means that costs for providing the washrooms are optimized
and revenues for the restaurant are increased. An additional
advantage is the optional analysis functions. Easy Entrance is
aimed mainly at the restaurant trade, filling stations, public
conveniences and busy tourist attractions. The system is
already operating successfully at motorway service stations
in Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands.

What is
FIPS 201?
New E-Plex 5800 product series
With E-Plex 5800, Kaba Ilco presents FIPS 201-compliant pushbutton locks, card readers and management software. The
range currently constitutes the only battery-operated products
complying with the FIPS 201 standard and approved by the
US authorities, and thus offers a value-for-money and secure
electronic stand-alone lock system. The cost of wired solutions
is three to five times higher than E-Plex 5800.
The E-Plex 5800 lock system is available in three scalable
security modes. Each mode adds progressively more checking
of the credentials.
Level 1: Up to 300 cards. No software, computers, cables or
networks. Cards are enrolled at the lock reader using the
LearnLock feature.
Level 2: Up to 3,000 cards per door or access point. Cards
are managed using software. Audit capability, time-sensitive
authorization and many other functions are available.

ability to check for credentials revocation status via an online
certificate status database that is updated daily.
