The PIR timer is part of the Elkay family of switches, timers and
detectors which save energy and increase convenience in and
around your home, garden or premises.
Usage
The PIR timer has been designed to replace a single gang light
switch, to control lighting and some heating and ventilation
systems, please contact the Elkay technical team for advice
on suitability. The unit is switched on by the detection of
moving body heat within a specific range. When body heat is
no longer detected, the unit will switch off after the
adjustable time period has elapsed. If moving body heat is
detected again during the timing period, the timing sequence
will restart. The unit has a lux level adjustment, which
prevents lighting being switched on when there is sufficient
light levels in the room.
Your Elkay timer has the added benefit of a manual override
facility. This allows the lights to be turned on for the set
period of time when the ambient level is such that the lights
would not usually come on. In dark conditions the manual
override disables the PIR allowing the lights to be turned off
indefinitely or when the override switch is re-pressed.
WHEN USED WITH SOME LOW WATTAGE LIGHTING, HEATING
AND VENTILATION CIRCUITS PLEASE ENSURE A CAPACITOR
OF 2 MICROFARADS (MINIMUM) IS FITTED. SUPPLIES OF
SUITABLE ELKAY CAPACITORS CAN BE FOUND AT YOUR STOCKIST
(REF PFCC-1). DO NOT USE WITH CONTACTORS.

Your Elkay unit is compatible with a single gang, 25mm deep
British Standard accessory plate. Please ensure that the
top and bottom lugs are removed from metal wall boxes
prior to fitting. For 16mm boxes Elkay provide a spacer plate
(product code220A-1) to take box depth to 25mm.
For two way lighting (see diagram 2), you will require a slave.
Please note it is not possible to use two 2 wire masters in the
same circuit.

Positioning
Use the detection range to determine a suitable location for the
sensor. Avoid subjecting to direct sunlight, not adjacent to the
load, vibrating surfaces or near forced air heating and ventillation.
Please note that the trigger terminal is the third terminal.

the red LED will flash rapidly to indicate the PIR has been
disabled and will switch the lights off after 1 minute, please
note blue locator neon will be on and the red neon will be
flashing. To re activate press lens (as shown in diagram 5).
Installation Notes
If the mains power has not been applied and the PIR lens has
been pressed the blue locator ring will flash once. The unit will
then revert to rapidly flashing and the initialising sequence steps
above must be repeated.
LIVE OUT
This product requires a 24 hour power supply. The battery
inside the unit recharges when the light source or appliance is
switched OFF. Where the supply may be interrupted or
isolated regularly we must recommend our products from the
three wire range.

From the rapid flashing mode, if the installation sequence is not
complete as per instructions the unit will revert to sleep mode
after a period of 5 minutes. To re activate press until it clicks and
hold the PIR lens for approximately 20 seconds.
Installation Steps
DO NOT APPLY MAINS UNTIL INSTRUCTED!
Step 1 - Ensure the mains power to the circuit is switched off.
Place the previously identified live in wire as per diagram, into
the terminal marked L In, the switched live out into the
terminal marked L out (see diagram 1).

Step 2 - Set the timing as per timing table (see diagram 4). The
black square illustrates where the dip switch should be
situated. For example 10min 1 = OFF, 2 = ON, 3 = OFF, 4 = ON.
Step 3 - When initialising rotate lux level to maximum (+).
Step 4 - Switch on battery (dip switch 4) - you will notice a
red flashing LED light on the front of the unit (flashing
rapidly). Attach the unit to the wall with the screws provided
then clip the front fascia plate. The red flashing LED will
change to a single bright flash every 2.5 seconds. RE APPLY
MAINS supply, the unit will default your load to the ON
condition. (DO NOT PRESS FRONT OF LENS) Press and hold
the lens using thumb and fore finger as shown in diagram 5
until it clicks and keep it held down until blue locator ring
appears. Your light or appliance will now be switched off.
Please leave for 5 minutes to allow the unit to initialize.

Operation of the Unit
1.
In standard operation, the PIR will now sense body heat
when passing through the detection zone. Each time the
PIR is triggered the red LED will light and rest back to the
start of the timing period. The unit will then wait 20
seconds approximately before allowing the PIR unit to
sense and re-trigger the timing period again.
2. If no one is present in the room or the detection zone is
not passed through during its set time period, the timer will
time out, turning the lights or appliance off and the blue
locator ring will light up
3. The PIR unit will only trigger the lights or appliance if the
ambient light level is below that set on the lux level
adjustment potentiometer. See diagram 1 for location of
potentiometer (lux level adjustment).
4. When the ambient light level is sufficient the override
switch (pressing the lens as shown in diagram 5) can be used
to turn on the lights for the set period of time. This can be
used when additional light is required in the room.
5. To override the PIR switch which disables the PIR operation,
which leaves the lights turned off indefinitely. This can be
done by pressing the PIR lens (as shown in picture above),
In case of a power failure, your Elkay PIR timer will attempt to
automatically re-start, which will cause the blue locator ring to
flash. The unit will attempt to locate the power source for a total
of 5 minutes. Each recovery attempt will increase by a minute
each time. This will be repeated 25 times before the unit will
power down to sleep mode. During this time, pressing and
holding the PIR lens for approximately 20/30 seconds will initiate
a further recovery attempt.
Outdoor Installation (on the 570 range only)
Please note only products in the Elkay energy outdoor range
are suitable for use outdoors. Elkay energy outdoor can only
be used in conjunction with the surface mount box supplied.
Take the surface mount box and remove the knock out
section. If required and to ensure IP66 waterproof rating,
please use a suitable M20 cable gland and use appropriate
sealing washers. Mount the surface mount box on a secure
surface using the mounting pack supplied. Place screw cover
seals over the mounting screws. It is essential that the correct
IP66 rated connections are made to keep the IP66 rating of
the back box. Steel wire armored connections without seals
are not appropriate.
Turn off mains supply before proceeding with installation - Install
as per previous remote installation instructions - Mount unit
onto surface mount box using the fixing screws at all four corners
ensuring even connection with the seal - Place screw hole seals
over left and right screw cavities - Clip on front fascia plate Re-instate mains supply.
Please note that the black bar denotes the position of the dip switch.
