We, at the Secondary Summer School, will be doing our utmost to help students reach their educational goals. We hope that students and parents will cooperate with us in the achievement of those goals. POLICIES Admission: Classes are open to all Euclid residents and nonEuclid residents, if space is available. Schedule: High school and middle school classes will start on Monday, June 13, 2016. High school and middle school classes will end on Friday, July 8, 2016. Classes will be held from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Monday through Friday. No classes will be held on July 4, 2016, in observance of the Independence Day holiday. Fees: The fees are for tuition only. Tuition must be paid in FULL before the first day of Summer School. Beginning Monday, June 13, 2016, a $20.00 late fee will be applied to registration. Refund Policy: Refunds will be made only if a class is cancelled. Students assume the risk of change in their personal affairs or health. The Secondary Summer School program is selfsustaining. Receipts from course fees offset course costs. We reserve the right to cancel any class because of insufficient enrollment.
Tuition will not be refunded if the student withdraws early, or if he/she is excluded/withdrawn by the director. Attendance Policy: There are NO excused absences in Summer School. A total of three absences, (one and a half, per half credit) will be permitted. Four total class tardies equal one absence and a student will be counted tardy if he/she is late after 8:00 AM, on each school day.. Any absence or tardy after three, or one and a half, for a half credit class, will result in the student being withdrawn from the class. He/she will receive an F for the final grade and no money will be refunded. If the student enrolls after June 13, 2016, those days still count as an absence. EXPECTATIONS 1. After three absences, students will be automatically withdrawn and tuition will not be reimbursed. 2. Students under eighteen who ask to go home for illness or emergency reasons will be allowed to do so only upon a telephone contact from the school to the parent. No student is allowed to leave school property during the school day without permission from the school office. 3. Students shall dress modestly in Summer School. Shoes or sandals are required for all students. Appropriate shorts are permitted. Headwear of any kind is unacceptable. 4. Pagers, headphones, cell phones, and MP3 players are not permitted to be in use during Summer School. 5. Pens, pencils, notebook paper, and specified texts are required each day for students. 6. Students should read all the rules of conduct and attendance, which are posted in each classroom. 7. Parking rules for automobiles, motorcycles, and bicycles will be strictly enforced. All of the above should be locked securely. 8. Students may not sleep in class. Sleeping will count toward absences. 9. The Euclid Board of Education maintains a “No Smoking Policy” for all students and staff. 10. All other Euclid City Schools rules and the rules of the Euclid Board of Education apply to Summer School. 11. No visitors are permitted on school property without being approved by the director. All others will be subject to arrest for trespassing. CONSEQUENCES Parents will be notified regarding any major infraction(s). The consequences listed below will be followed for infraction of rules after referral to the building administrator. These rules and regulations shall be applicable to conduct on school grounds before, during, and after summer school hours. The director will determine the level of all consequences. First Offense: Immediate Removal from Summer School 1. NO REFUND 2. Fighting, theft, vandalism, direct insubordination, smoking on school property, excessive disruptiveness, threats, endangering, possession or use of intoxicating beverages, illegal drugs, and weapons or mace on property. One – Day Suspensions: One day suspensions from school can be given for other offenses that are in accordance with the Euclid City Schools Discipline Code Book. Suspension days are counted as absences. No makeup work will be permitted for times missed for unauthorized departures, absences or suspensions. Attendance: Tardies (4 tardies = 1 absence): 1. Types of Tardiness: a. Regular Tardy: 10 minutes or less = 1/4 absence b. Late Tardy: 10 minutes to less than 30 minutes = 1/2 absence c. Excessive Tardy: 30 minutes to less than 45 minutes = 3/4 absence Leaving School: 1. Leaving school with office and parent permission, during regular class time, before the class period is half over, will result in a one day absence; after class is half over will result in halfday absence. 2. Each tardy/absence counts toward the total of three absences. A student may be permitted to make up work for an authorized absence, but the absence is still counted toward the total of three. Full Absence: 1. Each absence over 45 minutes is assessed as one absence against a student’s allotted total of 1.5 absences for a halfcredit course and a student’s total of three for a one credit course. A student who misses a 4hour or 2hour course will only receive one absence marked, but may not make up the work missed if the teacher chooses to deny the makeup work; especially if there has not been authorization for the absence. No makeup work will be permitted for time missed for unauthorized departures or arrivals. The designee of the Superintendent of Schools will be considered the final step in the school appeal process. Any further appeals must be made in the Court of Common Pleas.
