A: The term "select" comes from the process of putting a team together by a "selection process" known as tryouts. There are no tryouts for recreational soccer. Select teams play other select teams and do not play recreational teams, Q: When and Where are tryouts held? A: Tryouts are held at Triple Creek Park on June 1st & June 15th. Players should plan to attend both sessions for maximum skill observations. Tryout times TBD. Check the Gallatin Soccer Club website www.gallatinsoccerclub.org for updates. Q: How are players evaluated at tryouts? A: Players participate in a series of drills to highlight their individual soccer skills. Scrimmages are formed to show player abilities in game situations. All players are given a number to identify them and their skills are recorded as that player by number not by name. Q: Who evaluates the players? A: Head Coaches & asst. coaches of the select soccer club and qualified and experienced HS soccer players will evaluate players. Q: How are players selected? A: "Select" soccer is a team of players that have been selected on the basis of performance at tryouts. These players are not necessarily all the best players but individuals who may compliment others to make up the best team. Q: What is the cost for a GSC Rangers player? A: Fees range from $1000.00 to $1500.00 per player, per calendar year and can vary based on roster size and tournaments played. ( uniforms , field equip, and tournament fees are included in the fee range) . Other miscellaneous expenses such as food and transportation are the responsibility of the player and parents. Sponsorships and/or fund-raising is welcomed to offset expenses. Q: How will select soccer prepare a player for a high school team? A: Being a member of a select soccer team requires dedication from both players and parents. It is the responsibility of the coach and the parents to keep select soccer fun and enjoyable as well as promote excellent soccer play. Players who enjoy participating at the advanced and competitive level will be better prepared to play in high school. Generally, 80% to 100% of high school soccer team starters played select soccer. Although some select teams play occasionally in winter and summer, sports such as baseball, volleyball, track and basketball are commonly played by select players with little or no conflict. Q: When is the soccer season and how much travel is done? A Youth select soccer, U-9, U-10, U-11, U-12, U-13 & U-14 is played in spring and fall. Out of town games and/or tournaments are determined by the Head Coaches and discussed with the teams accordingly. High school students play select soccer in the opposite season of THSSA soccer. That is high school girls play select in the Spring, boys play select in Fall. Q: What age is required to start at the select level? A: Tryouts are for both boys and girls from the ages of U9 through U18. *Check the Gallatin Soccer Club website (www.gallatinsoccerclub.org) for tryout updates*
