Are you fed up with surveys, questionnaires or people knocking on your door to ‘find out what you want’? Well this is a very different project - it means you have to take part and be involved - you definitely get the opportunity to moan and groan and compliment and tell us good things, but in a constructive way that helps everyone understand including the service providers, what your real problems, issues and concerns are, and how these affect you and the area where you live. Is Graffiti a problem near where you live? Interested? OK - so this is what will happen - during the week, you can come along to the centre and put your comments on a post it and then post it on an ‘issues’ board. Your comments will be collected and recorded on paper at the end of each day. You can come back and check this! When the week long event has finished plenty of information will be collected, which when put together will tell the ‘story of the Paston ward’ as told by residents. honey newsletter.indd 4 20/10/2009 09:08:43 Next you will be invited to come back to the centre (at a date to be arranged) and find out what people said, then, using the information gathered you will have the opportunity to make some decisions about what’s important for you and Paston to thrive. The issues board will cover these topics: Health and well-being Housing Education and training Employment / unemployment Information Advice and Guidance Young people Older people Families Local shops - business Leisure, sports, arts and drama Safety and crime Environment and cleaner greener spaces honey newsletter.indd 5 20/10/2009 09:08:47 Have a look at the following questions – these are the sorts of thing things we want to know thin ow about: What are the roads and paths like near your home? Do you get a good service from the council, housing, health and schools? Do you care for a relative and feel isolated - are you a young carer? Do you have a disability that stops you getting involved in community activities, issues etc? Are there plenty of things to do in your area - leisure, arts, sports, drama, singing, gardening, brownies and any other types of group activities? How safe do you feel in your neighbourhood? Your comments andd views, ideas and concerns really real do matter. Using the information you give, will help shape an action plan for Paston. The action plan will be used as a ‘tool’ to get better services provided in or to Paston residents, but unless you ‘HAVE YOUR SAY’ it won’t happen. We want to know exactly what you think and feel about the area where you live, we want to know what aspirations you have for you and your family and Paston, and if you really believe they can happen by living in Paston For more information contact Cheryl Arnold 01733 577611 [office] or 07917072773 [mobile] or email: [email protected] honey newsletter.indd 6 20/10/2009 09:08:50 y do matter. Oh no it isn’t! Oh yes it is! Paston’s very first pantomime is coming to Honeyhill Community & Children’s Centre this Christmas. Local children and adults have been working hard to learn their lines, songs and dance routines as well as backstage designing scenery and making costumes. This promises to be a fantastic event for the local community and there’ll be several performances including a matinee on a Saturday afternoon. All proceeds from the show will go to organising trips for local families. Christine Mann, Paston Family Outings Chairperson and local resident said: “The idea came about because we paid for a company to come and perform a pantomime for the community last Christmas. This cost us a lot of money and we felt we could’ve done a better job. The big summer event ‘Honeyhill’s Got Talent’ also showed that many children in the area enjoyed performing on stage. We decided set up a Drama Group (adults meet on a Wednesday evening and children on a Saturday afternoon). The children’s group has been running for several weeks now and they are really enjoying themselves and you can see that their confidence is growing each week. We hope this will be the start of many performances and shows for the local community.” If you’re interested in joining speak to Christine Mann or Jason Wilson at Honeyhill Community & Children’s Centre or call them on (01733) 577611. honey newsletter.indd 8 20/10/2009 09:08:56 Honeyhill Community & Children’s Centre present me! Gone are the days of mums and tots groups, Dads are welcome at all of our activities but there’s now a group at Honeyhill Children’s Centre specially for dads, male carers and grandads. The Saturday Dads’ Group, which started in September is a fantastic opportunity for dads and male carers to spend some quality time with their children. Jason Wilson, Children’s Centre Co-ordinator said: “It’s a really informal group, there’s no sitting in circles. It’s just a space for dads and their children to play together.” “We use the pre-school space at Honeyhill and there’s loads of activities including indoor toys and painting as well as the large outdoor space with sit and ride toys, balls, a sandpit and building blocks”. The group has only been running since the beginning of September but we hope that it will grow and develop into other projects. Dads have already said they’d like to develop a community garden plot and do some digging and planting with their little ones.” The group meets fortnightly on a Saturday morning and is free. There’s no need to book, just come along. There’s also free bacon rolls, tea and toast so why not come along for breakfast. Saturday Dads’ Group meets every other Saturday (31 Oct, 14 Nov, 28 Nov, 12 Dec), 10-11.30am, Free, Honeyhill Community & Children’s Centre, Chadburn, Paston. We had a fantastic day and everyone had a wonderful time. After arriving at Sandringham we all had a chance to get refreshed and have a cuppa before we met up to go on a trailer tour of the estate. The tour was fantastic, we travelled through the woods and the beautiful wildlife. The driver gave us a running commetary for the entire journey. We were able to see where the Queen loves to walk and Prince Charles’ favourite part of the estate and the tracks where the Duke of Edinghburgh does his carriage racing. After the trailer tour everbody went off on their own, to investigate the rest of the estate. Later in the day we went to Hunstanton for a lovely fish and chip supper before our journey home. It was a fantastic day.
