Helping You Make Sure Your
Children Grow Up Healthy
Welcome to Pleasant Street Pediatrics
From strep throat to croup, to runny noses,
rashes, and respiratory viruses, most children
will experience some illnesses growing up. Often
the illnesses are worse for the parents than the
kids. Fortunately, the staff at Pleasant Street
Pediatrics is available to provide the finest care
for your children, along with the comforting
words and advice you need.
Taking care of sick children is only part of our
job. We think regular check-ups are just as
crucial to your child’s health. During infancy,
well-baby visits can determine whether your
baby is growing and developing properly.
Your baby will also get the vaccines needed to
prevent many life-threatening illnesses. As your
child grows, regular checkups will continue
to monitor growth, as well as alert you to any
emerging health problems.
The staff at Pleasant Street Pediatrics looks
forward to watching your children grow
up healthy and strong. The practice accepts
most major insurance plans as well as many
commercial plans. To schedule an appointment,

On-Call Coverage
Since children don’t always get sick between the hours
of nine and five, we are part of a large coverage group
of pediatricians. This enables us to provide 24 hours
a day, seven days a week coverage for serious illnesses
and emergencies.
Welcome to Pleasant Street Pediatrics
Our goal is to provide the highest quality health
care to our patients. We are providing the following
information to you so that we can work together to meet
your health care needs.
Office Hours
Our general office hours are Monday through Friday
from 9:00am – 5:00pm.
Phone Information

Jennifer Thomson, MD ............................... (508) 431-5100
Brenda L. Colvin, RN, MS, FNP ................ (508) 223-2474
Jennifer M. LaFleur, MSN, APRN, FNP...... (508) 223-2474
Jaime Kain-Lema, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC.. (508) 223-2474
Our regular office phone hours are Monday through
Friday from 8:30am – 4:00pm.
Our phones are forwarded to our answering service each
day between 12:30pm and 1:30pm for lunch.
If you require medical advice, our phone system permits
you to select a triage nurse. The triage nurse can
schedule appointments, provide medical advice based
on each providers protocol, and/or consult with your
child’s provider.
To help with coverage when the doctors have left
the office, calls are forwarded to either the on-call
physician or the answering service. We are associated
with the Nurse Telephone Triage Service which acts
as a go between for the patient and the doctors after
7:00pm. They are trained Pediatric Triage Nurses who
can give advice. Depending on the situation, they will
contact the on-call physician.
We encourage our patients to call us for routine
and well care visits during normal business hours.
Weekend and evening appointments are reserved for
emergent issues.
Scheduling Appointments
Children are seen by appointment only. Remember
that most children need an annual physical, particularly
kids going to day care, camp, Head Start, as well as
those who play sports. Be sure to call three months in
advance to schedule a physical exam.
We save a limited number of same-day appointments
for patients who have urgent issues. These appointments
are scheduled in order of availability only.
Canceling Appointments
We understand that unexpected issues come up
that require patients to cancel and reschedule their
appointments. We ask for at least a 24 hours notice
when canceling or rescheduling your appointment.
This will allow us time to schedule another patient
who may be in need of urgent care.
We also ask that you call us if you are going to be late
for your appointment.
We look forward to watching your
children grow up healthy and strong
What To Bring To Your Appointment
You should arrive for your appointment about five
minutes early to check in at the front desk. We will
ask for your insurance card each time you come so
we are absolutely sure we have your current insurance
information. We will also verify your home address
and contact information and collect any co-pay due.
If we do not receive the most current information, you
may be financially responsible for your bill and asked
to sign a financial waiver.
Testing Services
Screening laboratory testing services are offered
on-site. For our patients who need more in-depth
testing or hospitalization, Pleasant Street Pediatrics
is affiliated with Sturdy Memorial Hospital, which
offers broad access to the necessary resources and
technology needed to care for our young patients.
Referrals
Many health insurance companies require you to
obtain a referral from your primary care physician
before seeing a specialist. If you require a referral,
please call the office and follow the informational
prompts on our phone system.
Billing Procedures
We submit billing claims to your insurance company
within a day or two of your visit. This is why we ask
to see your insurance card each time you see the
doctor. Most insurance companies send payment and
an itemization of any patient co-pays, co-insurance
or deductibles within a month. We then send you an
invoice for these items, for which we expect prompt
payment.
We know that some health expenses can be
completely unexpected. If you cannot pay the full
amount at once, please be sure to call our billing office
to set up a payment plan.
We also recognize that health insurance can be
confusing, and our billing staff is available to help
you with any questions. Please contact them directly
at (508) 236-0101.
Cell Phone Policy
We ask that you turn off your cell phone when you
enter the building.
Release of Medical Information
Federal laws require all health providers to maintain
patient privacy. For patients 18 years of age and older,
no health information can be released to another party
without the consent of the patient, even to a parent or
other relative. We cannot release medical information
without the patient (or parent if under 18) signing an
authorization to do so. Please see our Privacy Policy
for further information.
Let Us Know How We Can Do Better!
We strive to continually improve the service to our
patients. We welcome your feedback through our
Patient Satisfaction Surveys that we mail to our
families. We encourage you to fill them out when
you receive them. You can also contact our Practice
Manager at (508) 236-0115 to discuss any issues or
concerns you may have.
We appreciate that you have chosen us to provide
your health care. Thank you!
