University. Jakarta: 2011. The English which is learnt by
the students, is an important language for face the global
era. Writer takes Singular and Plural Noun, because Singular and Plural Noun are basic of study for students to learn
English, and Singular and Plural Noun are introduced in
Elementary School. In this scientific writing, the writer analyzes how far the students of SDN Jaka Setia 4 understand
in using Singular and Plural Noun. The writer wants to find
out how far the students understand about Singular and
Plural Noun. Quantitative method and qualitative method
are used by the writer to solve the problem. The writer
gave questioners in analyzing the errors of fifth grade of
SDN Jaka Setia 4 in Singular and Plural Noun. The questioner is in multiple choice which consists of 20 questions
given to 40 students as a sample. After data had been analyzed the writer found that fifth grade students in SDN
Jaka Setia 4 in understanding about Singular and Plural
Noun was in Below Average or Poor. iii
I. Chapter 1
CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background of Research English is a second language used by Indonesian.
Students have learned English in their young age. They
were introduced English when they were kids. Parents
and teachers taught them English. Many vocabularies
they taught, from animals, fruits, things, parts of body,
and so on. The English which is learnt by the student,
is an important language for face the global era. Everything used English, such as using computer, apply a job
in foreign company, guide books, and so on. The benefit of using English is very good for our better future.
Nowadays, students use English as their language in their
school. Using English is as the schools role. When they
want to talk something, they use English. They used to
talk with English. Everyday is English. In English, students learn many subjects. They know about nouns, verbs,
adjectives, adverbs, and so on. They can identify something, whether nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverb, or so on.
In this paper, writer studies about noun. According to
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noun, Noun is a word used
to name a person, animal, place, thing or abstract idea.
Students must be know about noun, such as, doctor, John,
dog, Paris, mother, tables, glass, bat, etc. 1
2 Writer took singular and plural noun as a subject of
her paper. Writer takes Singular and Plural Noun, because Singular and Plural Noun are base study for students to learn English, and Singular and Plural Noun are
introduced in Elementary School. The writer would like to
analyze how the students of SDN Jaka Setia 4 understand
in using Singular and Plural Noun and why the students
made the errors. The reason why the writer takes SDN

CHAPTER 2 THEORETICAL REVIEW 2.1 Error
Analysis According to Longman Dictionary of English Language and Culture, Error : 1) a mistakes. 2) the state or
quality of being wrong or mistaken. (1998:439) According
to Kridalaksana, an error is a systematic error on the use of
second language learners (1981:25) According to Longman
Dictionary of English Language and Culture New Edition,
analysis is 1) examination of something by dividing it into
its separate parts. 2) an examination of something together with thoughts and judgement about it. (2005:41)
According to James, error analysis is the process of determining the incidence, nature, cause, and consequences of
unsuccessful language. (1998:1) According to Brown, that
it is fact that he learners do make errors and that these
errors can be observed, analyzed, and classified to reveal
something of the system operating within the learner, led
to a surge of study of learners error, called error analysis.

4 2.2 The level of Understanding Theory According to
Johnson, the levels of understanding in linguistics are determined from the skills of population and how can the
students able to mastering grammatical form. Percentages are often used to grade written test and represent the
percentage of the items the students completed correctly.
(1987:376) In determining the level of understanding, the
writer uses the theory from Johnson, Measurement and
Evaluation for Physical Educators (1987:376) : A : Outstanding or Excellent B : Above Average or Good C : Average or Acceptable D : Below Average or Poor E : Failing
or Unsatisfactory According to Johnson, a frequently used
scale for grades, particularly in colleges is one that sign a
grade of : A : when the students get 90

CHAPTER 5 CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION 5.1
Conclusion Based on the previous chapter result of data
analysis, the students who answered correctly is 543 of 800
questions or 68

CHAPTER 4 RESULT OF STUDY 4.1 The Analysis of
Questions Based on the questionnaires given to the fifth

grade students of Jaka Setia IV which consist of 20 questions of 40 students, the writer makes analysis for each
number and identify the mistakes. The analysis can be
