Letter from the Executive Director
As I reflect on the past year, it can certainly be described as a milestone year.
For myself, I took on the honor and challenge of serving as the Executive Director
of The Bridge for Youth, an organization with a rich history of dedicated support
and service to the community that helps young people and their families transform
their lives.
For The Bridge for Youth, 2007 ushered in its 37th year, and with it, not only the
continued dedication to our mission to serve youth and families in
crisis, but the completion of our new building, The Bridge Center
The Bridge for Youth understands
for Youth. As a result of the dedication of our staff, volunteers,
that the needs of adolescents are as
community partners and generous donors, we proudly moved in
unique as they are varied, and above
to the new facility in January of 2008. We will now have more than
twice the capacity to serve youth, which holds with it great promise,
opportunity, and the excitement for our continued success.
all should be honored. By doing
so, our community is strengthened
exponentially.
The Bridge for Youth understands that the needs of adolescents are as
unique as they are varied, and above all should be honored. By doing so, our community
is strengthened exponentially. This understanding is at the heart of our service, providing
an invaluably safe place to those in crisis 24 hours a day, every day, realizing that times of
need do not follow a predetermined schedule.
I am honored to carry on the tradition that has been established and look forward to the
incredible potential I see before us.
Please join me in reflecting on the great history of this organization, and celebrating
the continued growth and success as we venture forward, honoring the incredible past
achievements while building new successes.
Thank you for your continued support,
Tim Reardon, Executive Director

Since 1970, The Bridge for Youth has played a critical role as
our community’s 24-hour access point for youth and families in need,
directly accessible without waiting lists, fees or red tape.
Each year the demands grow, with increasingly complex cases
in our emergency shelter and increased need for transitional and
permanent housing. With a dedicated staff and strong support from
the community, we help hundreds of youth each year get off the
street and into safe shelter, reunite with families and build skills
for a better life.
2007
The Bridge for Youth offers the full continuum of services
needed to help youth and their families.
Our Programs
Reunite Families
Individual, group and family counseling
The most effective way to prevent youth homelessness
is to reunify youth and their families and help them
develop the skills to work through conflicts before they
reach the breaking point. The Bridge for Youth staff
offers individual and family counseling to help families
before they reach the breaking point. Emergency Shelter
Fourteen bed crisis shelter for youth ages 10-17,
Health assessment and follow-up
open 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
Family Counseling
Comprehensive family reunification counseling and other services for youth in our crisis shelter.
Walk-in counseling is offered at no charge for youth
and parents.
Our Family Counseling Program offers unparalleled
expertise in working with youth and families in crisis
The Bridge for Youth has a licensed public health nurse
on staff to conduct health education, assessments and
coordinate follow-up health care for homeless and street
youth. Our health program includes a health assessment
within 24 hours of arrival in our residential programs,
education on sexual health, chronic health conditions,
nutrition and fitness, and referrals for dental, medical,
mental health or chemical dependency treatment.
Transform Crisis to Opportunity
Build Life Skills
Youth on the streets are especially vulnerable and at risk
for violence, sexual exploitation and chronic untreated
health problems. Our services help youth in crisis.
24-hour hotline
Hope for building a better life, skills for healthier
relationships and the ability to set and achieve goals for
their education, employment and stable housing; these
are the supports provided by The Bridge for Youth
to young people in our Transitional Living Program
and scattered site housing with support programs.
Life skills development
24/7 telephone crisis counseling to youth, parents, and other persons concerned about a youth.
Walk-in counseling
Shelter Youth
Many who come to us have had painful experiences with
the adults in their lives. When asked what they most want
in life, they’ll answer “an adult in my life I can trust.”
We offer ongoing counseling and support to help them
heal.
Housing with supportive services
Building healthy relationships and living in the
community are the first steps toward stability. Job
and education counseling, the use of computer labs
and rental and life skills support help youth learn the
routines and habits of a productive life.
Walk-in counseling is offered at no charge for youth and parents.
Homeless youth who are ready to work toward stability
may enter our Transitional Living Program. Young
people from ages 16 to 21 may stay at The Bridge Center
for Youth for up to a year as they develop skills needed
to live independently, including budgeting, cooking
nutritious foods, cleaning and maintaining relationships
with landlords or fellow tenants.
Support groups
Housing with support services Support groups and individualized support services are
offered for youth who have been in our shelter or other
programs.
For older youth ready to take the next step, The Bridge
for Youth’s Independent 365 program offers subsidized
housing in 24 apartment units around the neighborhood.
This program serves young people who have developed
the skills to live independently while maintaining support
services to help them reach goals and maintain housing
stability. The Bridge partners with private landlords,
assists youth in paying rent and continues to offer
assistance when needed whether budgeting or getting
along with roommates or other tenants.

Mission
Helping youth in crisis
VISION
VALUES
The Bridge for Youth is the premier resource for youth and families in crisis. We ensure a continuum of care to provide
shelter and support, to reunite families
whenever possible, and when it is not, to
build independent living skills in young
people. The Bridge for Youth is a community leader in the development of approaches for youth and their families to
resolve problems and develop healthier
relationships.
• We value the ideas, contributions, and
potential of young people.
• We honor the worth, competence, and
integrity of families in all their forms.
•We welcome, understand, and encourage
diversity among our staff, clients, and
colleagues.
• We promote excellence among our staff,
volunteers, and interns, and honor their
contributions.
•We are passionate about working with
young people and their families.
