Dragon Flies and Lady Bugs

Enchanted Kingdom
Grades K-1 Colberg
Junior entomologists will take a look at the life cycles and environmental
role of dragonflies, butterflies, lady bugs -- to name a few! We'll venture
outdoors and observe our insect friends, and use our magnifying glasses
and collection nets. We’ll practice our letters and writing when we
produce our own field guide!
Journey to an enchanted kingdom-- accompanied by our favorite
characters. We’ll read stories about Peter Pan, Shrek, Elsa and Anna, and
more. We’ll make a classroom size map of the enchanted kingdom,
showing the treasures and hazards we may find. We’ll practice our
alphabet and letters, write an enchanted forest book, and practice our math.
Our guide to our enchanted kingdom will be a wizard/fairy of our choice!
Tales of Heroes, Heroines, & Villains/Creative Computer Storytelling
Grades 2-3 Dye
Learn the art of storytelling and writing as we enter the world of heroes,
heroines, and great villains. We will read some of the classic tales and
then compose our own stories. After illustrating our stories with our
artwork, we will bring them to life using web-based storytelling programs
and animation.
Marine Science
Grades 3-4 DiBenedetto
Join our exploration of the vast oceans that cover our planet! As marine
biologists we’ll investigate ocean creatures such as humpback whales, sea
turtles, sharks, jellyfish, and discover how they survive in the everchanging ocean environment. We’ll explore microscopic plants, coral
reefs, and powerful tides. As concerned oceanographers, we’ll seek
conservation measures to protect our oceans and ocean life. Geography,
research, games, and scientific investigation will aid us on our exploration .
Kilimanjaro Expedition
Grades 4-6 Holcomb
It is 1889. You are invited to join the 1st expedition to the summit of Mt.
Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak! As climbers and geologists, you will
have incredible adventures along the way. Pack your gear and begin your
journey. Be prepared for unexpected challenges as you trek through
beautiful and treacherous terrain to reach the summit. Geology, history,
critical thinking and cultural exploration are woven together in this
exciting and fun adventure!
Let It Shine! Electricity, Art, Technology!
Grades 2-3 McClure
Spark your scientific interests! Enter the science lab and explore the
fundamentals of electrical charge, currents, and circuits. Apply your skills
in electricity to create amazing light boxes, which glow, play music,
vibrate, change color, and more. You will become a “renaissance”
scientist crossing the fields of electricity, art, and technology in this lively
class!

Create the videos you always wanted using the Star Wars theme. Did you
love the character Rey in Star Wars and wonder what other adventures she
will have? With this class, now you can create (and star in) your own Star
Wars video scenarios. Write short scripts, learn filming and lighting
techniques, produce story boards, and develop skills in editing.

Clue! Forensics Investigator
Grades 4-6 Hiles-Newman
Join your forensics team as a junior crime fighter. Using technology and
your wits, learn the techniques of examining crime scenes, interviewing
suspects, collecting evidence, examining fingerprints, and using DNA
analysis. Solve a mystery a week. Write up your official findings – and
bring the guilty parties to justice. Science, computer technology,
collaboration and writing skills are woven together in this unpredictable
and exciting class.

Introduction to Coding--Java
Computer Game Design With Scratch!
Grades 3-6 (12:45-1:45) Hiles-Newman
Be introduced to computer programming and game design using the
MIT-developed Scratch program. Learn the principles of Scratch, and
then develop a variety of computer games, complete with art and music.
Build up your tech skills while you engage in creative game design.

Grades 4-6 (12:45-1:45)
Learn the basics of coding and beginning java. De-mystify the process
of writing simple code, create simple video games, and develop and
strengthen your tech expertise.
Games of Strategy/Leadership
Grades 3-6 (12:45-1:45)
Berces/Casassa
Collaborate in playing games of strategy. Develop cooperation and
leadership skills through camp-oriented projects. A popular class,
returning for its’ 6th year.
Computer Animation
Grades 2-4 (1:45-2:45)
Dye/Gao
Create interactive animated stories using MIT's computer programming
platform, Scratch. Apply art and music to your stories; write your own
animated comic strip. Have fun while you learn computational and
computer programming skills -- and share your creations on the web.
Art: The Great Outdoors
Grades 2-6 (1:45-2:45)
Berces
The dramatic outdoors, with its scenery and its wildlife, is our setting!
Paint, watercolors, clay, collage, maybe a few jewels, will be our
mediums to create outdoor inspired artworks.
Team Building – Outdoor Games
Grades 3-6 (1:45-2:45)

Step outdoors and engage in a variety of games and challenges designed
to build team-work skills and cooperation.

Develop your artistic talent on a variety of arts and crafts projects, with
sports and others as themes. Expand your style with color & paint, work
with tissue paper and mixed media, and create your own art treasures!

Practice a variety of postures and breathing techniques from the yoga
tradition to increase balance, build strength and flexibility, improve
posture, and reduce stress. Then engage in outdoor fitness. An
invigorating combination!
