Skill 18: Colons
Rules• Only use a colon after a complete sentence
• The things that come after a colon should
expand on or clarify what came before it
• TIP-try replacing the colon with the word
namely to see if your sentence makes sense
• The first word after a colon should not be
capitalized (unless it is a proper noun)*
• *this is actually a style preference
