announcedthatlegendaryandmulti-awardwinningBritishfilmmaker,KenLoachwillreceive
theFestival’sfirst-everRaindanceAuteurAward,recognizinghisachievementsinfilmmaking
andcontributiontothefilmindustry.
BestknowngloballyforhisfilmsthathighlightvariousBritishsocio-economicissues,Ken
LoachwonthecovetedPalmed’Oratthisyear’sCannesFilmFestivalforhislatestfilm,I,
DanielBlake,inUKcinemasOctober21st.
TheawardwillbepresentedbyRaindanceFounderElliotGrove,onTuesday,September
27th,2016,whereMr.Loachwillalsoparticipateinan“InConversationWith”discussion
spanninghiscareer,films,theever-changingfilmindustryandwhathemayhaveinstorefor
audiencesinthefuture.
KenLoachwasbornin1936inNuneaton.HeattendedKingEdwardVIGrammarSchooland
went on to study law at St. Peter's Hall, Oxford. After a brief spell in the theatre, Loach was
recruited by the BBC in 1963 as a television director. This launched a long career directing
films for television and the cinema, fromCathy Come HomeandKesin the sixties toLand
And Freedom, Sweet Sixteen, The Wind That Shakes The Barley(Palme d’Or, Cannes Film
Festival2006),LookingforEric,TheAngels’ShareandI,DanielBlake.
“WecouldnotbemorethrilledthatKenLoachwillbetherecipientoftheFestival’sfirst-ever
RaindanceAuteurAward,”saidElliotGrove,FounderofRaindance.“Hehasalwaysbeena
greatsupporterofRaindanceandasaprominentfigureintheindependentfilmindustryanda
filmmakerwho,overtheyears,haschangedthewaywelookatfilm,wecouldnotthinkofa
morefittingartistictalentforthisaward.”

HotelandDominikMoll’sNewsfromPlanetMars.BothfilmswillscreenatPicturehouse
CentralonSeptember21standOctober2nd,respectively.
