Unit Six: Communicating Love
Week 1: Love One Another
Christian Studies
• Bible Thought - Here is God’s command, love one another. (John 15:17)
• God made and loves the people around me.
• People around me love and care for me.
• Jesus loves me.
• Jesus wants the people around me to love Him.
• I can show love to others.
• God wants people to be kind to others.
• Read “The True Neighbor” pgs. 380-385, and “The Forgiving Brother” pgs. 102-107 in My Favorite
Bible Storybook.
Social Living – Discuss sharing, treating others nicely, saying nice things, helping others, etc.
Science - Make magic touching bags: Combine in a Ziploc baggy: ½ cup water, 5 tablespoons corn starch, 1
drop red food and 1 drop white food coloring and ½ cup vegetable oil. Ziploc the baggy and seal with
masking tape for insurance!! Work in small groups in science center. Allow the children to press the bags
with their fingers.
Language and Literacy
• Letters
o Exposure to letters that pertain to the theme
o Emphasize ‘Vv’ for valentine
o Point out letters and things that begin with /v/
 The Children whose names begin with ‘V’
 Children who have ‘v’ in their name.
 Words, pictures, labels, and objects that begin with /v /
• Word Book
o Add theme related pictures and words to the word book.
o Categorize the pictures according to the beginning letter.
• Vocabulary - heart, valentine, love, God, cards
Math
• Counting
o Count by rote to 4
o Count up to 3 hearts or candies using one-to-one correspondence.
• Shapes – Introduce the heart
• Colors – Review red
• Classification – Play sorting games with colors
• Matching – Match hearts by color (red/pink)
Art
• Begin making Valentine decorations.
• Use red and white paint to make the color pink and paint at the easel.
Music/Movement – Love One Another (tune: “Three Blind Mice”)
Cooking – Make Jell-O hearts

Week 3: God Created Us

• Bible Thought – How [God] made me is amazing and wonderful. (Psalm 139: 14)
Science
• Talk about parts of the body: head, shoulders, arms, elbows, hands, chest, stomach, legs, knees, and
feet.
• Ask the children to touch various parts of their body e.g., Touch your knees. Touch your elbows.
• Talk about hair, skin and bones. Ask the children to feel their skin and hair. Let them feel their wrist
bones, elbow and knee bones.
• Include the opposites hard/soft in the discussions.
• Play games and sing songs that would allow the children to move various body parts such as the song,
Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes.
Language and Literacy
• Alphabet Knowledge and Recognition – Exposure to uppercase and lowercase ‘x’ for x-ray.
• Word Book – Place a picture of an x-ray in the word book for /x/.
• Vocabulary – body, knee, elbow, torso, shoulders, ankle, wrist
Math
• Counting
o Count by rote to 4
o Count body parts such as five fingers and five toes, two feet, two hands two arms, two legs
• Shapes – Continue the heart
• Colors – Review red and pink
• Classification – Play sorting games with colors
• Matching – Match hearts by color (red/pink)

Art – Trace each child’s body. Let the children paint their body. Use multicultural paint. Each child can paste
eyes, ears, a nose, and mouth on the face. Use yarn for hair. You could also use a small body shape instead
of tracing each child.
Music/Movement – Shake Something from Hap Palmer CD Getting to Know Myself
Cooking – Make strawberry flavored milk.
Learning Centers/Interest Areas
• Dramatic Play – Add a doctor’s kit
• Blocks – Add an ambulance and a fire truck

Week 4: Taking Care of My Body
Christian Studies
• God made me. He gave me a wonderful body.
• Bible Thought – Use your body in a way that pleases God (1 Corinthians 6:20).
Science
• God made you. If you love God, take care of your body.
• Talk about rest and exercise.
• Discuss personal hygiene and germs.
• Talk about the doctor and the dentist.
• Include the opposites dirty/clean, sick/well, open/close in the discussions.
Language and Literacy
• Alphabet Awareness and Recognition
o Exposure to letters that pertain to the theme
o Emphasize ‘Dd’ for doctor.
o Point out letters and things that begin with /d/.
 The Children whose names begin with ‘D’.
 Children who have d’s in their name.
 Words, pictures, labels, and objects that begin with /d/.
• Word Book
o Add theme related pictures and words to the word book.
o Categorize the pictures according to the beginning letter.
• Vocabulary – doctor, nurse, dentist, stethoscope
