Doonbank Trofee Cyclocross
Rozelle Park, Ayr
24th January 2016
Rider information pack
Welcome
Well done you! You have entered the second Doonbank Trofee Cyclocross in Ayr, hosted
by Ayr Burners Cycling. We’ve prepared this guide to help you plan for and enjoy your
day. We’ve also prepared it so that JP and Chris know what they are meant to be doing.
If you see them looking dazed and confused on the day please feel free to prompt them
with a cue!
What?
The ‘Doonbank Trofee’ is a day of cyclocross fun for all ages. We have access to a lovely
scenic park just next door to the Bard’s birthplace in Alloway so we hope he enjoys an
early birthday present.
We have two competitions taking place:
• Round 2 of the Super Quaich Series, for everyone over 16
• Round 4 of the SC South West Winter Series, for everyone under 16
Cyclocross racing is by far the bestest racing out there. Typically a winter discipline, it sees
competitors charge around an off-road circuit for anything up to an hour, looking for the
fastest way to face obstacles including hurdles, sand, mud and deeper mud. This should
involve a bit of running.
The Super Quaich
The Super Quaich is a new, four-race series, insured via TLI (www.tlicycling.org.uk). It’s
primary aim is to maximise and extend the thrill of racing throughout all ability levels. We
want as many riders as possible to have a rider just ahead of them and a rider chasing
them close behind. When this happens every rider gets a racing experience. Visit
www.superquaich.cx for all the relevant rules on points etc.
SC South West Winter Series
The SC South West Winter Series is a new seven-race series primarily aimed at youths and
run by the clubs affiliated with Scottish Cycling South West. There will be points awarded
for all youth categories at each event with the best 5 counting towards the overall series
placings. Visit www.scottishcycling.org.uk for all the relevant rules and regulations.
The Doonbank Trofee races are supported by the members, friends and supporters of Ayr
Burners Cycling QTS.
Why?
Ayr Burners Cycling is Ayrshire’s fastest growing cycling community. Our aims are to
promote cycling opportunities across Ayrshire and encourage cyclists to visit Ayrshire.
We love cyclocross as an accessible, family friendly discipline of cycle sport, taking place
in secure off-road environments, not requiring specific technical skills to participate, and
allowing cyclists of all ages and abilities to ride together.
Organisers JP and Chris are also closet racing fans. Although renowned locally for not
being a #topperformer, JP is a regular on the cyclocross circuit best known for keeping his
white bar tape CLEAN. Meanwhile Chris is still troubled over whether he prefers
andalouse sauce or plain old mayo with his frites, and has got the belly to prove it.
Ayr Burners Cycling are grateful to South Ayrshire Council for providing permission to use
the popular Rozelle Park. We are excited to welcome cross fans from across Scotland to
enjoy our particular local brand of mud.
When?

Where?
The Doonbank Trofee takes place
at Rozelle Park in Ayr. We have
access to changing facilities
including showers at the venue.
Strip Address:
Rozelle Park,
Monument Road
Ayr, KA7 4NQ
Car Parking
Parking at the site is VERY limited and will be carefully marshalled. There is nearby onstreet parking on ‘The Loaning’ (KA7 4QL) that we encourage participants to use.
Rozelle Park is in a prime location close to the centre of Ayr. It is popular with the public
and dog walkers especially, so please show due care and consideration when preparing
for the event. The majority of the course takes place on an old pitch-and-put course with
some quality banking. The course is soft underfoot and we expect the north east corner
to chew-up substantially as the day goes on. In the main section of the park our course
deliberately hugs the tree line in order to minimise the visual disturbance to the park.
Due to heavily saturated ground please warm up on tarmac or the actual
race course only. This will minimise damage to the park so we can return!
How?
Registering The Super Quaich events have fully sold out so no on-the-day entry will be
accepted. Riders should go to race sign-on before their event to collect their number
and timing chip on presentation of a valid TLI membership card. The timing chips have
been hired specially for the event and are expensive, so please make sure to return yours
after the event.
Youth racers participating in the Scottish Cycling South West series should register online
via the British Cycling events page:
https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/138683/ABC-DoonBank-Trofee
Registration for youth events is ONLINE ONLY due to limited course capacity

TLI Technical Regulations:
The DoonBank Trofee Super Quaich races are run under the regulations of TLI Cycling.
All participants will sign the following statement prior to the event:
I agree to abide by TLI Cycling Rules and Regulations and agree that I participate entirely at my own
risk. I must rely on my own ability in dealing with hazards and ride in a manner which is safe for myself
and others. I am aware that when racing on the Public Highway, the function of the Marshals is only
to indicate direction and that I alone must determine whether any movement I make is safe. I
agree that no liability whatsoever shall be attached to the promoter, promoting club, sponsor, TLI
Cycling or it’s officials, or officials and members of the promoting club, in respect of any injury, loss,
or damage suffered by me or by reason of taking part in this event, howsoever caused. I am not
subject to any suspension imposed on me by any other Cycling Organisation which I have not
declared to TLI Cycling.
I confirm and acknowledge that my attention has been drawn to these conditions and that I have
read and I understand the said conditions and accept them as a fair contract.

British Cycling Techincal Regulations:
The DoonBank Trofee youth races are run under the regulations of British Cycling. A handpicked
selection of relevant Cyclo Cross event rules from Scottish Cycling’s 2014 Technical Handbook
appear below:
12.10 EQUIPMENT PITS
12.10.1 The equipment pit is that part of the circuit where riders can change wheels or bicycles. Servicing
and the changing of bicycles will only be allowed in these pits. Any rider passing the exit of the pit area must
continue on the course until reaching the next pit area. The provision of equipment pits is obligatory in all
races except those for under 12s and those promoted under the Go-Cross category.
12.10.5 Pits shall be straight and in clearly defined areas. They should be signposted and precisely marked
by yellow flags at each corner.
12.10.6 At the side of the pit area a zone at least 2 metres deep shall be set aside for riders’ assistants and
their equipment.
12.10.7 In category A events the race lane and the pit lane shall be separated and distinctly marked out by
tape or barriers. A rider may use the pit lane only in the event of a change of bicycle or wheel. Access shall
be provided for riders’ assistants only on one side of the pit lane.
12.11 CONDUCT OF COMPETITORS
12.11.1 Where practicable, thirty minutes should be allowed before the start of events (other than those for
under 12s) for on-course inspection and training by the respective riders.
12.11.2 All races shall be started by an audible signal from a point not visible to competitors. No indication
shall be given to competitors of the passing of seconds immediately before the start.
12.11.3 Riders found to be causing false starts shall be penalised at the discretion of the Commissaire. The
method of stopping a false start shall be defined by the start official during any pre-race instructions.
12.11.4 Riders shall start with the front wheel behind the line and with at least one foot on the ground.
12.11.5 Riders shall not receive assistance at the start, or during the event. The handing up of refreshment is
forbidden.
12.11.6 Any rider deliberately leaving the course shall be deemed to have retired from the event.
12.11.7 No competitor shall cover any part of the course without his machine.
12.11.8 When being lapped, it is the responsibility of the lapped rider to surrender the racing line.
12.11.9 All competitors, whilst training or racing on the course, shall wear properly affixed protective
headgear which must be of a hard/soft shell construction. The responsibility for ensuring that the protective
headgear is of a standard sufficient to provide adequate protection in the case of an accident whilst
training or racing on the course shall lie solely with the competitor. NB: advice on helmet standards may be
found in the note appended to SC technical regulation 1.17.1.
12.11.10 No member of SC/BC other than those competing or officiating shall be permitted to ride on a
course whilst a race is in progress.
12.11.11 The first three riders wherever practicable shall receive their awards directly after the event has
finished and adjacent to the finishing area.
