What’s For Dinner Tonight?
How many nights do you look in the fridge to figure out what to have for dinner only to order pizza
instead?
We are fortunate to have options, but in our greater Rochester community large numbers of adults
and children do not have these options. In fact, they go to bed hungry.
And even if they have food to eat, they may not be safe and warm or have the opportunity to
thrive.
Fact:
1 in 2 children in Rochester live in poverty
Fact:
The greater Rochester area has more people living at less than half
the federal poverty level than any US city its size.
The United Way of Greater Rochester Community Fund:
1. Meets basic needs of nearly 168,000 local people and families by providing
food, clothing and shelter which gives people a chance to focus on other
critical challenges.
2. Gives 4000 babies the best start by providing in-home parenting and
education support and education programs to reduce child abuse and
neglect. Also helps parents raise healthy babies by providing early
screenings and intervention.
3. Prepares more than 8000 children for success through after-school and
summer learning and enrichment programs giving them a safe place to learn
and play, reducing summer learning loss, and mentoring them to build skills
to be successful young adults.
4. Supports more than 31,000 seniors and their caregivers by providing
information, guidance, care coordination and resource centers for seniors to
learn new skills, exercise, make new friends, and eat a healthy meal.
You can choose where your donation goes—to the Community Fund or you can select from over
600 agencies that are part of the United Way network in the greater Rochester area.
Your participation is critical to the success of helping those who do not have the opportunities we
have. Please give consideration to helping those who are less fortunate. No amount is too small;
collectively we can make a better tomorrow!
