A White House Wedding
One hundred twenty-five years ago June 2nd, Grover
Cleveland became the first and only president to be married at the White House when he wed Frances Folsom.
She was a 21-year-old beauty who became one of the most
popular first ladies in American history.
Cleveland knew his bride-to-be, the daughter of his longtime friend and law partner Oscar Folsom, from the time
of her birth. He was twenty-seven years her senior and
became the executive of the Folsom estate when Frances’
was just 11-years-old.
Still a bachelor when he took office for his first term, President Cleveland had by then developed romantic feelings for
Frances who was attending college. Shortly after her graduation, the couple became engaged.
The wedding was held in the oval-shaped Blue Room on
the first floor of the White House with 28 guests in attendance. The groom’s brother, Reverend Cleveland took part
in officiating the ceremony and the music was provided by
the U.S. Marine Band, conducted by John Philip Sousa.
The Clevelands had five children and remained devoted to
Hold Your Feet To The Fire
This phrase was used during the Crusades. As a method for extracting a confession for
heresy, non-believers were positioned in a manner that allowed the inquisitor to apply
flames to the feet. This was done until the accused confessed or died. Its meaning today is to hold one accountable for a commitment, make good on a promise.

Q.–
I would like to use epoxy to coat my garage floor.
How do I go about it?
Karen
A.– Applying an epoxy coat to a concrete floor is as easy
as painting walls. First, as with any project, you need to
prepare the floor by thoroughly cleaning and etching it.
Once the floor is clean and ready for its coating, choose a
dry day when the temperature is between 50 and 80 degrees. Mix the epoxy paint and hardener. You will only
have approximately 2 hours to work with the material so
plan ahead. Starting in the back corner of the garage,
paint the floor. Typical drying time between coats is 1224 hours. Once the whole floor is done, hold off parking
your vehicle in the garage for another 72 hours.

What is one specific way you knew that you had received
your father’s blessing?
 My father would put his arm around me at church and
let me lay my head on his shoulder.
 When my father was facing being transferred at work,
he purposely took another job so that I could finish
my senior year in high school at the same school
 When I wrecked my parent’s car, my father’s first reaction was to hug me and let me cry instead of yelling
at me
 When I was thirteen, my dad trusted me to use his
favorite hunting rifle when I was invited to go hunting
with a friend and his father
 My father went with me when I had to take back an
ugly dress a saleswoman had talked me into buying
 Even though I had never seen him cry before, my father cried during my wedding because he was going
to miss me no longer being at home
 My father bought me a robe with my name on it when
I joined a boxing team
 My father helped me move into the dorm and to my
first home and he held all my children when they
were born.

Have you ever heard of Ty Beanie Babies? Cameron Johnson, a
young entrepreneur, got his start
at the age of nine making greeting cards and expanded into reselling Ty Beanie Babies on eBay. By the time
he was 12, he had sold his online advertising
company for an undisclosed sum after making
$4 million a month. As a teenager, he started
a dozen profitable businesses and at 15, he became the youngest American appointed to the
board of a Tokyo-based company. At 27, he
has hosted Season 4 of Beat the Boss which
airs on the BBC in the UK. Currently, he
works the lecture circuit and shares his experiences to help others.
After the assassination of President
Kennedy, his young son, John Jr.,
asked William Haddad, an associate of JFK’s, “Are you a daddy?”
Haddad told him that he was. In
response, little John Jr. said, “Then
will you throw me up in the air?”
Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but
when you look back everything is different . . .

FROM THE DESK:
Our family has been spending a lot of evenings at the baseball field this spring. Did
you know that baseball is a lot like construction work.
Running Speed: Speed is the most important tool in baseball. Players with speed
are counted on to complete the task.
Arm Strength: Arm strength and muscle
endurance are very important tools for the
baseball player so he can throw the ball
hundreds of times throughout the season.
Hitting for Average: Hitting for average
requires the ability to hit to all fields and
assess defensive situations, being able to
handle any circumstance in the playing field
Hitting for Power: The benefit of this tool
is that extra base hits increase the team’s
chances of scoring or finishing the job.
Fielding: “Good Hands” are the result of a
number of factors working together that
make difficult plays look simple. Players
are always working to develop a functional
approach to fielding from all positions.
We have a great crew!
