Blackboard literate. To develop a chronological analysis and evaluation and study of Western Art beginning with Renaissance period (1400) and ending with the coverage of Modern Art to the present. To establish recognition and identification of major artists and works as related to periods and styles of art. To understand Modern Art as representative of current philosophies. Correlations will be made with previous historic periods. 1.The student will develop an understanding of the development of humanity and civilizations as reflected progressively in the visual arts. 2.The student will develop an awareness of the theories concerning human expression Lake-Sumter State College Course Syllabus Assessed in this Course: fulfilled through art. 3.The student will have an opportunity to experience differing views concerning the evaluation of art and its function in various cultures over time. 4.The student will observe the correlation’s made between early and contemporary art in order to broaden personal views, knowledge and understanding of art. 5.The student will define specialized concepts and terms that is important for a valid interpretation of Western Art and applies the concepts and terms to the art studied and viewed. 6.The student will be able to name major artistic periods and movements along with approximate dates and general characteristics of each. 7.The student will be able to recognize and understand major artists’ works, the media they used, and the artist or humanist contribution to western or world culture and civilization. 8.The student will be able to contemplate the inspirational and motivational focus behind human artist creativity within the historical scope and artistic tradition applied toward critical analysis and evaluation of art works.
