TABOR DRUM
historic reproduction designed by The
G An
Early Music Shop of Bradford, England.
B
The English word “tabor” is derived from the
Latin word for drum, and we use the term tabor
to refer to the two headed squat drums associated
with the Fife and Drum. The thin shell of the
tabor, looks like a frame drum shell with two
heads. The shell is traditionally tin so the light
weight instrument could be carried, and played,
for long periods of time. The heads are usually
rope tuned with a snare on one side.

STREET DJEMBE
Two large natural skin heads stretched over
a lightweight body, gives this tupan a deep
booming voice. The drum can be tuned by
adjusting the leather tabs over the cords or the
tuning bolts depending on the model. Similar
large double-headed frame drums (also known as
Daouli, Davul, Dawul, and Tabl Baladi) have
been used in ceremonies, festivals, and in wars
throughout the Middle East for centuries; such
tupans accompanied Alexander the Great’s
armies as he marched from Macedonia east to
the Indus River. Today they are common in
Bulgarian folk music, where they are known as
Tupan.

Singing bowls are used for meditation,
relaxation, health, and personal well being.
They are made from an alloy of metals, called
Panchaloha, and have a beautiful tone. These are
just a few of our many singing bowl styles.
The Tambourine is descended from a long
narrow drum found in France. Cultures
around the world have altered the style, and we
have many of these variations.

Jingles have a delightful sound, and are
most often associated with the Christmas
holidays. They can be played, however, at any
time and make a fantastic percussion instrument.
Our Hand Jingles are made of rosewood and
have sets of cymbals to produce the sound. Our
Sleigh Bells are the traditional style bells mounted
on a rosewood handle.
