Windows Live SkyDrive 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. 13. 14. Open the website http:\\login.live.com Sign in with your email and the password that you use now to access your email. Type in your birth year, region (United States) and click on “I accept”. Click on “add” by “Name” and type in your name. Save. Complete the section for “Password reset information”. Click on “profile” found under your name in the top right-hand corner of the screen. Set the security level. Recommend using “limited”. Save. Click on “Documents” on the left-side of screen. Two ways to add files: Option One-Click on “Add files”. Select “My Documents” or click on “New folder” and create a new folder. Clicking on “select documents from your computer” will open a dialog box that allow selecting and saving any documents that can be reached from your computer including network drive files if at school. Click on the file and click on “Open”. Click on “continue”. The file should now be saved in the SkyDrive. Option Two-Open a screen such as “Documents” and just click and drag it to the Windows Live box. Click on “continue”. The split screen feature available in Windows7 makes this work very smoothly. To create a file directly in the account: Click on the drop down arrow beside “New”. Select which type of document you want to create-Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote. Features are more limited with the web app versions but the documents can be saved directly in the SkyDrive. Better to use Office 2010 and then save it in the SkyDrive if need all of the Office features. ****If creating a document in the “regular” Word, Excel, etc. the document must be saved somewhere else first before it can be transferred and saved in the SkyDrive. Also the document cannot be open. The SkyDrive should be thought of as a backup virtual drive that can be reached from anywhere that has web access. If network files are saved to the SkyDrive, then they will be accessible at home or wherever, not just at school. For students, this is what they can use to save their files to preserve them when all student laptops are wiped clean. Then when the laptops are reissued the next school year they can then transfer their files back to the hard drive if wanted. Photos can be saved. Documents can be shared as well.
